Published his Autobiography
Douglass published "Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass, an American Slave". He was putting himself at great risk because his former owner still claimed him as property. The book was a best seller. He later wrote 2 other versions, adding events from his later life. -

Frederick Douglass left America partially out of fear that his successful book and growing fame would lead his former owner to try to reclaim Douglass as a slave. He spent 2 years in Ireland and Britain speaking about slavery in America.

Attends the Seneca Falls Convention
Douglass was the only African American to attend the women's rights convention. He supported Elizabeth Cady Stanton's proposal to call for women to have the right to vote. He gave a speech that helped to convince the people attending to support the measure.
