Four days in the life of the estuary

  • Morning at the estuary

    Morning at the estuary
The Avon and Heathcote rivers help create an 800 hectare estuary on the east side of the city of Christchurch. It is home to 100 species of birds including wading bird and ducks.
  • Late risers!

     Late risers!
These birds were sleeping even though it was around 11 am when I took the picture. Maybe they had already been up and were now having a nap.
  • A heron looking for his breakfast

A heron looking for his breakfast
This heron was searching the water for some fish. When he found one it went down his throat still wiggling.
  • The swans ignore everyone

    The swans ignore everyone
The swans were unconcerned with other birds, cars passing by or me with my camera.
