  • Korean War

    Korean War
this is a link The tensions between the United States and the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics led to a battle between two ideologies. Communism and Democracy were pitted in a battle of global influence, and they were fought with satellite wars. One of these satellite wars was the Korean war, where Communist North Korea tried to conquer and unite Democratic South Korea. Eventually, the Democratic Superpower the U.S and the Communist Superpower China joined the battle that ended in a draw.
  • Vietmam War

    Vietmam War
this is also a linkThe Cold War boiled up into some higher temperatures with this classic Democracy vs. Communism clash. This time, akin to the Korean Konflict, the North (which was communist) attacked the South, however, this time the U.S was determined to win. The use of such extensive men and resources, and the prolonged time this war took made it turn sour for the American homefront. Eventually, after 18 years of warfare, the U.S backed down and the war was over with Communist Victory.
  • Sputnik Launch

    Sputnik Launch
SPUTNIKKKKKKOne of the branch offs of the Cold War was the famous “Space Race”, in which the U.S and the U.S.S.R faced off in the fields of science and technology. The spark of this race was the famous Sputnik launch, or the launch of the first Satellite into orbit. The Soviets made this incredible feat and once the West found out about it, the U.S spiked up its science and technology research fields.
  • Bay of Pigs Invasion

    Bay of Pigs Invasion
With the emergence of the Cuban Revolutions led by Fidel Castro, the rise of Communism started to show in the small island nation. This led to a watchful eye from the U.S, and eventually, when Fidel started to win, they started to act in the covert operations. One of these was to start a coup in order to overthrow his government, which led to the Bay of Pigs operations, however this one was a disaster, and only further strained US-Cuban relations.
  • Cuban Missile Crisis

    Cuban Missile Crisis
(-:The Cuban-Soviet alliance during the years of the Cold War really riled up the United States, the thought of having a Communist threat right under you seemed nearly heretical. These news finally escalated into the greatest threat mankind had ever faced, the Cuban Missile crisis. This pivotal moment nearly brought the planet on the brink of Nuclear War, and if it would have happened, there would be no American History to continue. However, John F. Kennedy managed to talk us out of it and it all t
  • JFK is Blown Away

    JFK is Blown Away
President John F. Kennedy was a very popular president during his administration, almost seen as a romantic figure. His rise to popularity (thanks to technologies like radio and television) also gave him many enemies. This led to his assasination at Dallas by a lone gunman, however, many other theories arise on who actually committed this act.
  • Liston Vs. Clay

    Liston Vs. Clay
During the years of the Cold War, boxing was becoming an extremely popular sport with the American public. Sonny Liston was one of the greats that arose in that time, defeating World Heavyweight Champion Floyd Patterson 2 years prior. This “Fight of the Century” was a total victory for the young Clay, who knocked his fearsome opponent and managed to win on a technical KO.
  • Hungarian Revolution

    Hungarian Revolution
PhotosAfter a rise of patriotism in the Hungarian capital of Budapest, there were many anti-Soviet sentiments rising throughout the country. The iron grip of the Kremlin's regime weighed down on the citizens of Hungary and they wanted freedom. Then, the unimaginable happened, the Soviet government actually gave a proclamation on Eastern European affairs, willing to better their relations with their puppets. However, this was short-lived, since at the brightest hour, Soviet tanks steamrolled through th
  • Apollo 11

    Apollo 11
moon stuffsPerhaps one of the greatest technological marvels of our era, the Moon landing completed by the the crew of Apollo 11 (that is, Buzz Aldrin, Neil Armstrong, and Michael Colins) was a big factor in American History. Thanks to the advent of the television, many people watched something that took place 238,900 miles away right in their living rooms. This also showed American dominance in science and technology to their Soviet rival and gave rise to new patriotism.
  • Nixon In China

    Nixon In China
Richard Nixon became president right after Lyndon B. Johnson (approx. 1969) and decided to make several new policies to the government. One was a more passive outlook on Communism and their host nations, and on this view, he decided to visit China. As the most populous Communist nation, this seemed like suicide for a person that hailed from a country that led a nearly religious crusade against the “Reds”. However, this was not the case, and Nixon actually managed to establish trade agreements wi
  • Soviet Invasion of Afghanistan

    Soviet Invasion of Afghanistan
Known as the Soviet Union’s “Vietnam War”, this was not as much as a glorious battle between Democracy and Communism, but an attempt to quell a civil war that had erupted. In this conflict, the Soviet Union went against the “rag-tag” fighting force known as the Mujahideen, or Muslim Holy War fighters. These warriors were very similar to the Vietcong, and they used guerilla warfare and terrain knowledge to score heavy blows on the Soviets. The war ended with a Soviet withdrawal by part of Mikhail
  • U.S. In Nicaragua

    U.S. In Nicaragua
The civil war in Nicaragua led to two parties butting heads, one was Sandinista’s Communist government and the Nicaraguan Democratic Party. The Democrats banded together to fight and eventually form the Contras, or the Counter-revolutionaries. The U.S naturally went with the Contras, but after many covert operations were discovered and the fact the Contras committed various war crimes, popular U.S opinion swayed against their support.
