    children were forced out of their homes to go to these schools, could only speak English, not allowed to pray, forced to cut their hair, and wear military clothing. their motive was to "kill the Indian save the man".
    my reaction from the movie on his topic was shocked that this was able to bring different tribes together even with the terrible conditions these schools had.

    reaction: I was shocked that native Americans were just forced to move and also that native Americans lost the land that they owned.

    The government was not trying to take away the Indians but wanted to make them more "white" by forcing them into assimilation. The Dawes Act was created to assimilate Native American Indians into mainstream US society to take away their cultural and social traditions. Over ninety million acres of tribal land was taken and sold to non-natives.
    reaction: I was surprised at the amount of land was stolen as well as Americans thinking forcing a culture onto native Americans would work.

    reaction: this was another attempt to further have natives be more "mainstream" but helped natives gain more rights.

    1- What is your reaction? this was meant to help tribes be in better economic standing. it was put in place to end the allotment act, as well as giving tribes more power.
    2- How does it relate to you? more equality to natives.
    3- What did you learn from it? that this act was made to help native Americans and help take away acts in the past that hurt them.
    4- How does it relate to FN cultures today? this act is still in place and has helped tribes grow and have control of their land.

    3- learn from it? The Bureau of Indian Affairs and the federal bureaucracy were found to be at fault for the troubling problems due to extreme mismanagement
    4- FN cultures today? Some tribes are still struggling to get their land back and get tribal recognization.

    1- What is your reaction? This law was designed mostly to alleviate the lawlessness that pervaded Indian reservations
    2- How does it relate to you? Minnesota and Wisconsin are affected by this law
    3- What did you learn from it? this was made to give states power over things that happen on tribal land.
    4- How does it relate to FN cultures today? this act is still in place but has been revised to give tribes more power in what happens.

    • reaction? this gave more rights and protection to native Americans, this was passed to protect Indians from a variety of abuses and unjust actions of tribal governments.
      • How does it relate to you? this gave equal rights to native Americans What did you learn from it? The Indian Civil Rights Act was passed after Congress was made aware that the Bill of Rights did not apply to tribal members.
    • FN cultures today? this act is still in place to give naive Americans equal rights.
  • Bryan v. Itasca County

    1- What is your reaction? this started with a tax on a mobile home but with public law 280, It helped all tribes by making it so states cant regulate tribes.
    2- How does it relate to you? this act didn't help natives or non-natives and needs more adjustment to be effective.
    3- What did you learn from it? this was used in over 380 court cases.
    4- How does it relate to FN cultures today? this act is still in effect today to continue no taxing on tribal homes.
