A 42 year old African American lady refused to stand up for a white man who wanted to sit down. This event inspired many to be a part of the Civil Rights Movement. -
Southern Christian Leadership Conference
This was the organization in which they practiced civil disobedience and peaceful protest during the Civil Rights Movement. Martin Luther King Jr. is made first President. -
Sputnik in Orbit
The Soviet Union launched the first man-made object into space, Sputnik. It was Earth's first satelite. It was only 58cm in diameter, but it was enough to send back impulse messages. -
Fidel Castro Rules Cuba
Fidel Castro becomes the Prime Minister of Cuba, and quickly makes it into a Communist government. The Americans are offended. -
Mapp Versus Ohio
Ohio police tried to search Mrs. Mapp's house without good reason, and she asked to show a warrant. The police left and came back, shoving a paper in her face and knocking her over to get into the house. They ended up arresting her for reasons unintended. Warren Court ruled her to be innocent because the evidence was obtained illegally. -
Bay of Pigs Invasion
This attack against Communist Cuba was launched by the CIA, using outlawed Cubans. It did not go as planned; the invaders were highly outnumbered by Castro's soldiers and were forced to surrender within 24 hours. -
First Man in SPACE
Many people do not realize how far ahead the Soviet Union really was in the race to space. The first man who actually reached the unknown void was Yuri Gagarin, a Russian pilot. -

The New York school board had an optional prayer time for the children. One family got angry at that, claiming that it enforced religion in school. It violated the First Amendment. -
Black Student in Mississippi
James Merideth was the first black student to attend University of Mississippi. There was such a racial commotion that President Kennedy had to send several THOUSAND troops calm everyone down. -
Gideon Versus Wainright
Gideon was accused of breaking into a poolroom, and he was denied a lawyer. Warren Court announced that no matter how petty the crime, the individual will be appointed a lawyer. -
JFK Assasinated
In Dallas, Texas, John F Kennedy was shot by Lee Harvey Oswald while traveling with his family through the city. The first shot that hit him went unnoticed by onlookers. He had immediately been paralyzed, but his wife merely assumed he was shocked at the noise. -

A school program designed to help disabled kids and students in general get help with their education. -
Economic Opportunity Act
This was the act that provided a Jobs Corps. It was the first of many acts that Johnson set out to end the war against poverty. Many said this was the one to recognize poverty in America in general. -

The Volunteers in Service to America was set up to be like a domestic Peace Corps. This was often for schools. -
Lyndon B Johnson ELECTED President
After JFK's assassination, Vice President Lyndon B Johnson took the role of Presidency for the remaining term. He later ran for office, and was officially elected to be President. -
Medicare and Medicaid
Medicare: Health insurance for those 65+ years old. It provided not only care, but also things such as retirement facilities.
Medicaid: Those who needed medical insurance, but were not Senior citizens. -
Voting Right's Act
Banned discrimination against African Americans when it came to voting, efficiently destroying the need for literacy tests, etc. -
Miranda Versus Arizona
Ernesto Miranda was accused of robbery, kidnapping, and rape. He was refused a lawyer, and confessed under interrogation. When he finally was appointed a lawyer, the lawyer claimed that Miranda's rights were violated. -
Martin Luther King Jr. Assassination
During a speech about Civil Rights, Martin Luther King Jr. was shot by James Earl Ray. The radical died later in the hospital. -
Civil Rights Act
In 1968, Lyndon B Johnson signed the Civil Rights Act, which prohibited the discrimation of African Americans in a commercial sense. -
Operation Rolling Thunder Ends
This fight that had lasted three and a half years finally came to an end. It was a long series of American planes bombing the Vietnam soil. -
Richard Nixon Takes Office
After Lyndon B Johnson's fulfillment in the war against poverty, Richard Nixon takes the throne. -
First Man on the MOON
Next in the Arm's Race against the Soviet Union, America sends real life people into space! Neil Armstrong was the first man on the moon, and Buzz Aldrin was next in line. They were sure to put a flag on it to mark their territory. -
Swann Versus Charlotte-Mecklenburg Board of Education
The Supreme Court agreed that they should integrate both races into school buses, which enraged many racist parents. -
Talk of Peace
In Paris, officials from both America and Vietnam talk of peace. In the end, it does not pass through, but it does ignite a will to end the war sooner rather than later. -
Richard Nixon Impeachment Speech
During his second term, many people were unhappy with Richard Nixon. There were many talks of impeachment. Eventually, he convienently decided to resign. Therefore, we still have never impeached an American president. -
End of Vietnam War
On this fateful day, peace is seet between America and Vietnam. Soldiers can go back home to their families!
About a quater of a million Vietnamese soldiers died, and hundreds of thousands of civilians perished.
