    Simone de Beauvoir (a french writer) wrote that "the first time we see a woman take up her pen in defense of her sex" which was from Christine de Pizan who wrote "Epitre au Dieu d'Amour" which translates to "Epistle to the God of Love".
  • Langham Place Group

    Langham Place Group
    A feminist activist organization. A group of woman that believe that woman deserved and should obtain the same treatment in society. Later established SPEW ( Society for Promoting the Employment of Woman ) in 1859.
  • First Wave

    First Wave
    Feminists throughout history have divided the feminist movement into 3 different waves all with different dates. The first wave occurred during the 19 and 20th century. Woman were not taken seriously and were constantly seen as less compared to men, understood that they should first increase political power (counting the privilege to vote) to achieve change was the means by which to start a reaction. Women wanted and tried to fight for equal contract and property rights.
  • Second Wave 1920-1980s

    Second Wave 1920-1980s
    Taking place after World War 2, the movement started to observe shameful acts managing wage fairness, sexualization, civil rights, and furthermore the way woman were dealt with in the work environment. This is the point on each timetable of the women's activist movement that individuals effortlessly perceive.
  • Woman's Suffrage

    Woman's Suffrage
    The right to vote was a strong right that the Woman fought very hard for throughout the years for nearly a century. The 19th Amendment to the US constitution finally granted the right for woman to vote on Aug 18, 1920.
  • Birth Control

    The FDA passed the approval of the contraceptive in 1960. The second wave helps destigmatize the contraceptive.
  • Education and employment

    In the 1970 woman and young girls still faced many obstacles in the work place or within education. Passed in 1972, the law required education and workplace systems to to provide equal chances/opportunities for woman compared to men. This law only took affect in 1976 due to court complications.
  • Legalizing Abortion

    Abortions became legal in the USA on January 22, 1973, the Supreme Court in Roe v. Swim legalized these laws, and set rules for the accessibility of abortion. Also established a right to privacy for all woman who were getting abortions.
  • Third Wave

    Third Wave
    Basically the Third Wave is all about empowerment with woman. Woman want to "normalize" basically anything that should already be seen as a norm but isn't. This entire wave includes movements towards Body positivity ( what we wear, how much skin we show, weight ) Sex positivity, Equal pay, protests towards sexual assault cases and ect.
