    Why: Western Europe wanted to stop communism and Eastern Europe wanted it

    Significance: It was not a gun war but it was mainly a showing of strength and was significant because of power

    What: Pakistan and India
    Where: Border of India and Pakistan
    When: August 14, 1947
    Why: Seperated based on religion (India: Hindus and Pakistan: Muslims)
    Significance: They are both still separated today and still have conflict between them (Asian History)

    Why: The Jews needed a new place to stay after the Holocaust and they were trying to take over Palestine
    Significance: The conflict has not ended even today as it is
    still happening. Israel is taking over Palestine (If Americans Knew)

    What: Canadians get free healthcare

    When: January 1, 1961
    Why: We pay taxes so we get free healthcare
    Significance: It is know as our "trademark" and is still given
    today for free. (Health Canada)

    What: John F.Kennedy assassinated by a sniper rifle
    Where: Dealey Plaza, Dallas, Texas
    When: November 22, 1963
    Why: Unknown
    Significance: He was the 35th American President and was known for hope and prospects of a new generation. Very brutal for everybody around the world and we have still not recovered from it (JFK Library)

    What: The government voted to change the Canadian flag

    Why: Wanted to create a new Candian flag one that had no colonial or cultural symbolism attached to it
    Significance: The new flag is used to day and represents Canada (Quinlan, 226)
  • First Person to Walk on the Moon

    First Person to Walk on the Moon
    Who: Neil Armstrong
    What: Neil Armstrong was the first person to land on the moon on Apollo 11
    Where: On the Moon
    When: July 20, 1969
    Why: America wanted to beat Russia to the moon first for national glory
    Significance: 8 years after John F. Kennedy gave his speech in 1961 saying "First, I believe that this nation should commit itself to achieving the goal, before this decade is out, of landing a man on the moon and returning him safely to the Earth.” (Space)

    Who: Robert Bourassa and Bill 22
    What: Robert Bourassa passed Bill 22
    Where: Quebec
    When: July 22, 1974
    Why: To make French the official language of Quebec
    Significance: Bill 22 is still used today and was to preserve and strengthen the French language in Quebec (Quinlan, 248-249)
  • CN Tower

    CN Tower
    Who: The CN Tower was made by Canadian National Railways
    What: The CN Tower was completed after working on it for 40 month
    Where: Toronto, ON, Canada
    When: February 22, 1975
    Why: They wanted to demonstrate the strength of a Canadian industry by building a tower taller than any other in the world
    Significance: It's one of the wonders of the world and attracts a lot of tourists from around the world to look at this tower (CN Tower)
  • Bill 101

    Bill 101
    Who: Rene Levesque and Bill 101
    What: Bill 101 was passed
    Where: Quebec
    When: August 26, 1977
    Why: Strengthened Bill 22 but effectively banned the use of English
    Significance: Divided Canadians both inside and outside of Quebec and many people protested. In 1999, court ruled the province couldn't continue to restrict other languages (Quinlan, 249-250)
