  • Baron de Montesquieu publishes his book called "On The Spirit Of Laws".

    Baron de Montesquieu publishes his book called "On The Spirit Of Laws".
    In 1748, the Enlightenment philosopher, Baron de Montesquieu, published a book called "On The Spirit Of Laws' which talks about how there should be seperation of powers in a government and balance between power. These ideas were later put to use in the Constitution.

    The Americans declare independance from Britain.
    In 1776, because of reasons such as "taxation without representation", the American colonists declared independance from the British monarchy through the Declaration of Independance. Written by Thomas Jefferson, it stated reasons for America to seperate from Britain.

    Enlightenment ldeas like liberty, equality , and brotherhood had been heard across France. The people of the third estate knew they were being treated unfairly, so they made an oath that they wouldn't stop fighting until the caste system was fair. The first act of rebellion happened whe the people stormed the Bastille prison.

    After the Reign of Terror, The French Directory of five men (including Napoleon) took over. This wittled down to only Napoleon in power. Then, in a coup, Napoleon wipes out the directory completely and makes himself ruler.

    After Napoleon overthrows the directory, signs a contract with Pope Pius VII, and he becomes the emperor. He crowns himself to show he is more powerful than the Church. He goes on to defeat Austria and build his empire.

    In 1804, the slave army (created by Toussaint L’Overture) lead by Jean Jaques Dessalines, leads the slaves in a revolt against the French. They win, and become free.

    A preist named Padre Hidalgo read all of the Enlightenment philosophers' ideas and told all of the people about how it was time for Mexico to be independant. The people then marched through what is now Mixico City for freedom.

    In Napoleon's last battle, he is facing the Duke of Wellington's army. The ground is muddy, so Napoleon tels his army to wait for the ground to dry. However. by the time it does does dry, the Duke has called for reinforcements. Napoleon finally loses.
