Evaluation Question 4

  • Pre-production - Research

    Pre-production - Research
In our research we used YouTube to watch and analyse videos of the genre of our own, and music videos in general, as well as finding similar videos, using the 'recommended' area of YouTube. This helped us find a style that we could stick with in our own video.
As well as this, we used Google forms to gain information about what our audiences want to see in a video and the kind of branding they like to see, we also gained this feedback using WhatsApp; is an easy and quick way to gain answers.
  • Pre-Production - Communication.

    Pre-Production - Communication.
During the pre-production stage, communication was key, this is why we used a WhatsApp group chat to communicate between the group, so we can know each others availability quickly and create schedules easily, which we did in iCloud calendars, this helped us in production stage of the music video as we knew when and where we all needed to be.
  • Pre-production - Editing softwares

    Pre-production - Editing softwares
Getting used to and developing our skills in the editing softwares was key, this is why we used any chance to use these softwares in our research and planning like in the mega-research stage, Louise used Premiere to put together the compilation of the videos she was going to be analysing. Also, we all used Photoshop to create rough layout and design ideas for our ancillary tasks, in the mock ancillary task.
  • Pre-production - Downloading Videos

    Pre-production - Downloading Videos
Tubechop was a software we used to cut videos, however this didn't work very well, so we used Youtube converter (MP4), to download these videos and cut them on Premiere, in the analysis stage of research.
  • Pre-production - Test shots

    Pre-production - Test shots
Test shots were important, to ensure we gain the right shots in our ancillary tasks. So, we used a Canon Eos camera and iPhone camera to take test shots which we used in Photoshop to create the 'rough layout', this helped us know where in the rule of thirds we needed the models to be and experiment with the different backgrounds, i.e which were more easy to remove or which worked best with the style.
  • Pre-production - Presentations

    Pre-production - Presentations
Making presentations for what we had found was fun, we used various softwares including Padlet, Prezi, Photopeach, Emaze, TimeToast, Pages/ Microsoft Word and Genius. Not only did we use these to present, but we had to ensure that the software we was using represented the kind of data we were presenting, i.e. Timetoast was relevant for a timeline of music videos, Genius to analyse lyrics and Pages or Word to create a fact file of models, or music video directors.
  • Production - Film / Photography - Canon Eos

Production - Film / Photography - Canon Eos
In production we used the Canon Eos camera, to film the music video, most times using a tripod to hold the camera, we used various shots e.g. mid shot, close up, and increased and decreased the zoom, as well as panning and tracking. We also used the camera to collect the photos for our ancillary tasks, using a green screen and white screen as well as photography lights to gain the right amount of light and shadows in our images.
  • Production - Film / Photography - iPhone

    Production - Film / Photography - iPhone
For the second half of filming, we used a iPhone 8 camera, this was used in hand held shots. We also used this camera to take photos for our digipaks, with the iPhone we were easily able to alter the focus of the images and instantly Airdrop the images to the devices we needed them on. We also used Google images for some aspects of the video, for example the template of iMessages.
  • Production - Feedback

    Production - Feedback
During production, it was key to gain Feedback along the way, we did this using various technologies, including WhatsApp to gain feedback quickly, as well as iMessage, we also used Showbie to gain feedback from a larger source of people.
  • Post-Production - Editing

    Post-Production - Editing
To edit our video, we used Adobe Premiere, in here we cut from shot to shot, using varied transition effects including dissolve, overlayed footage to create and effect, reduced the speed to create a focus, To create the sound effects for the incoming text messages, we used Youtube Converter to mp3, to download the sounds and imported them to Premiere.
To edit the ancillary tasks, we used Photoshop, to overlay images, increase and decrease opacity, use filter gallery and alter the colour balance
  • Post-production - Communicate and feedback

    Post-production - Communicate and feedback
To communicate images and footage to one another, we used Airdrop to share from phones and laptops.
We gained feedback face to face, but filmed this using the Canon and iPhone camera, and edited this on Premiere.
Also, to present we used softwares like Prezi and Timetoast, as well as YouTube to upload our video, and other videos to then upload them onto the Blog.
Blogger was key throughout our work in general to present and keep track of our work.
