  • Board of Education v. Rowley, 458 U.S 176 (1982)

Amy Rowley had a hearing impairment. Her parent’s insisted she have a interpreter, but was denied. The Rowley’s took the case to court and claimed the school violated the EAHCA. The court ruled that Amy was not entitled to an interpreter, and was receiving the services she needed to meet the eligibility for FAPE and showed signs off success in grades. This case helps parents and educators understand that the IEP provides “some educational benefit” but isn’t required to give the “best” services.
