The Mach Number
Mach developed optical techniques to measure sound waves and their propagation. Mach created a system that compared the velocity of super-sonic objects with the speed of sound using the measurement scale called the Mach number! Mach 1 is directly the speed of sound. Objects that go faster than the speed of sound have larger numbers which we are familiar with today! -
The Mach Principle
Mach's principle says that there is a physical law that relates the motion of the distant stars to the local inertial frame. It is often stated in vague ways, like "mass out there influences inertia here". A very general statement of Mach's principle is "local physical laws are determined by the large-scale structure of the universe".
This concept was a guiding factor in Einstein's development of the general theory of relativity. -
Vienna Circle
The Vienna Circle of contemporary positivism was originally founded as the Ernst Mach Society. The philosophical position of the Vienna Circle was called logical positivism. It was unified making philosophy scientific with the help of modern logic. it focused on the unification of the sciences.
