    Topeka vs Brown

    Kinda Brown was an 8 year old coloured girl living in Topeka, Kansas during the 1950’s. She lived close to an all white school, but due to being coloured was refused a spot at that school. This angered her father, Oliver Brown, so he filed a suit saying that schools were seperate, but not equal. The parents then enlisted the help of the NAACP, which then provided the couple with legal advice to back up Mr Browns case.

    Emmett Till

    Emmett Till was a 14 year old boy. Till walked up to a white woman named Carolyn Bryant while on holiday in Mississippi, it is thought that he said “bye babe” as he left the store she worked at. Bryant’s husband then found out about this and him and his brother, J.W Milam went and found Emmett at his great uncles house. They then took him and gouged out his eyes, shot him in the head and tied a heavy metal fan to him with barbed wire.
  • Montgomery bus boycott

    An African American woman named Rosa Parks boarded a bus in Montgomery.A white passenger entered the bus and was left without a seat, so therefore Rosa Parks was asked to move.Rosa Parks ignored the request and as a consequences was arrested and charged $14. This started a bus boycott, which turned out to be very effective so they carried it on for just under a year. This case was taken to court and the law that Black should give up their seats was agreed to as unconstitutional.
