The Spanish took over rule of the people of El Hierro, called the Bimbaches. The spanish were being led at this point by Jean de Bethencourt. -

Through the Island’s hybrid power generator, the island is able to sustain electric stability for the people of the island. They developed this, in order to cut back on the adverse effects that come out of producing energy the traditional way. These revolutionary new ideas prove that it is possible for other countries that are even more developed, and can implement their ideas in other countries, allowing for room for improvement in the quality of our earth. -
Local council approved the El Hierro Sustainable Development Plan
Through this plan, this allowed for the government of El Hierro to start its process in implementing their plans of electric cars, and changing the means of production for energy. The government was thinking of selling the electricity they they made for the electric cars, much like gas is now. They could gather their necessary funds in order to recoup the costs for this entire project. -
$100 Million Hydroelectric and Wind Turbine Farm Inaugurated
This dual system allows for the creation of energy, with codependency. When there is no wind to turn the turbines, the water is released, and creates electricity. There is a system to almost recycle the water, and keep this at a constant rate of production. The turbines and the hydroelectric generators come together to provide sustainability for the island. While quite expensive, it will definitely pay off in the long run. -
El Hierro Aims to Change All Cars to Electric Cars
In the act of changing all of the cars on the island to run on electricity, the question arose of how to make money in order to cover the costs of producing all of the electricity. They came up with the idea to promote the sale of electricity for the cars instead of gasoline. They would cover the costs for the electricity for production, and it would be easily achieved with the amount of cars expected to be in the island.
