  • Jane Adams Opened Hull House

    Jane Adams Opened Hull House
    This event made the cut to be in the top five historical events that were highly significant in today's k-12 education. Without Jane Adams opening the Hull house, some minorities as well as the poor would not have been able to get an education. This has helped with equality in schools. Everyone, no matter their social class, could now start their education path.
  • Little Rock Nine

    Little Rock Nine
    Without the nine students who fought for equalized schooling, the schools would still be segregated. Separation also occurred in content in the schools. By the nine students and their supporters pushing through the horror they endured, all students can attend a school and be provided the same content.
  • The Open Classroom

    The Open Classroom
    This allowed students to focus more clearly on what they are supposed to be learning for their said age. Each room now has children separated by age as well as by the level they are learning at. This helps each student to learn at their rate of speed to get to be their best learning self. All public schools have now moved away from the one-room schoolhouses to many roomed schools.

    A Nation At Risk
    Having a standard quantity of each core subject allows everyone to have the same opportunities to become functionally literate. This allows the country to boost the economy. This allows everyone to have a basic understanding of each core subject.
  • Individuals Disabilities Education Act

    Individuals Disabilities Education Act
    This act was passed to allow ALL students, no matter how severe their disability to attend school. All schools now, by law, need to provide any services needed for students with disabilities to get an education. This is a top-five spot on the historical list as students with disabilities were not offered the same education as other students, in a different form until this Act came around.
