  • Brown Vs Board of Education

Brown v. Board of Education of Topeka, 347 U.S. 483, was a landmark United States Supreme Court case in which the Court declared state laws establishing separate public schools for black and white students to be unconstitutional
  • Christa McAuliffe/ space shuttle

Was chosen to be the first teacher astronaut but her mission ended 73 seconds after launch. I believe this was important because the whole nation along with young kids was watching.
  • The Immigration and Nationality Act of 1990

Increased annual immigration to 700,000 adding to the diversity of the nation and the schools. Proved VISA's for certain people. I believed this was important because diversity wasn't a huge thing back in the 1990's but after this act was passed it increased the flow of diversity changing the school systems as we know of today.
  • Illegal Immigration Reform

Prohibits states from offering higher education based on residency. The students and schools can greatly be affected because the undocumented can't attend a school for higher education which don't seem fair.
  • Columbine High School Students

Two high school students go on a killing spree killing students and causing wounded students as well. I believe this is important because mass shootings in schools day are becoming an everyday issue. People and schools should practice drills more often and try new safety methods.
  • No Child Left Behind act

Holds the schools accountable for the students progress levels and provides penalties to the schools that don't meet yearly progress. This is important because some students learn slower than others and take awhile to process information causing the progress to be slowed down which causes other issues.
  • Alabama becomes first state to check immigration status

Does not require prohibit the enrollment/ report the names of undocumented children. This act is important because students shouldn't have to worry about the education and being deported because of being undocumented.
  • Chicago Board of Education Votes to close 50 schools

One of the largest mass closings in history. Was to reduce costs but improve the quality of education. This is important because closing schools affects the communities along with the students who used to attend the schools.
  • Tax Cuts and Jobs Act

250 limited on the deductions teachers can take to spend on school supplies and expanding the use of saving plans. The teachers spend a lot of money out every year for school supplies and this act puts a strain on the teachers which will effect the students.
  • Florida Governor Rick Scott Signs Legislation

Talks about raising the age limit to buy a firearm to 21 and a 3 day waiting period for firearm purchases. This is a very important act because it talks about the age limits of fire arms and in the world today its a scary thing but needs addressed.
