    The Deepwater Horizon oil leak happened when the Deepwater Horizon oil rig exploded, resulting in a large oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico. The disaster lasted 87 days, releasing nearly 200 million gallons of oil into the water. It damaged almost 1,000 kilometers of shoreline, killed marine life, and caused long-term environmental harm.
