    Serbian Protests

Stefanovic, the leader of the left wing, opposition party in Serbia was beaten down by masked men. The people believe Serbian President Vucic may have something to do with it, they have opposed his rule for some time, also. This was in 2012 and different flare ups have happened and people turn to social media to continue the conversations, they are not censored like print and broadcast media. Facebook and Twitter are the main platforms to rally, using endless activist hashtags.
  • Black Lives Matter Movement

    Black Lives Matter Movement
After seeing that Zimmerman, the cop who gunned down Trayvon Martin for no apparent reason, had been acquitted Alicia Garza posted on her Facebook page, using the hashtag, "#BlackLivesMatter". This movement that has been majorly hyped up by Facebook, is decenteralized by social media but still organized. This movement has branched off into All Lives Matter, etc. Another testament to how quickly a movement can spread and to all parts of the world with just one post.
  • #MeToo

    #MeToo
The MeToo movement was spurred by accusations against Harvey Weinstein in 2017 for sexually abusing many women years ago. The movement started by Alyssa Milano started the hashtag, "#MeToo" on Twitter, in hopes that victims would come forward and share their stories. The movement erupted on all platforms but Twitter takes the cake on coverage of these stories and events. The victims of sexual abuse have taken great advantage of this voice through social media.
  • Venezuelan Protests

President Maduro is being pushed by anti government demonstrators to step down and for Guaido to step up to fill the spot. The opposition leaders, congressmen, etc, plan for big rallies carefully, as to avoid being shut down. Guaido used Instagram to post a video of him inviting all citizens that are sick of the Maduro terror regime to come and support in massive protests in all major cities and town hall meetings as well. The major social media used is said to be texting, it spreads quickly.
  • Hong Kong Protests

    Hong Kong Protests
Hong Kong wants to stay a separate government from mainland China, this has recently been threatened and there have been peaceful protests in HK. The Chinese government has been so quick to censor any social media posts, that people only are seeing what the government wants them too, which is violent protesting from HK. The site called Freeweibo.com is censored information from the government's perspective and that is what has been allowed to be leaked on any social media.
