    The Me Too movement established a platform that helped woman who have been sexually abused safely tell their story. This movement started in 2006 but really gained traction in 2017 using twitter and hastag #MeToo. This became global through social media sights such as twitter and facebook.
  • Yellow Vests Movement 2018

    the Yellow Vests movement happened in 2018 to protest government reform. Protesting high cost of living, rising fuel prices, and a failing tax reform. The protests happened in France and were most recognized through the millions of people marching the streets in yellow cross walk jackets. Largely covered by the news, social media sights like YouTube and Twitter gave us videos, pictures, and updates on the protests.
  • Hong Kong 2019-2020

    Hong Kong 2019-2020
    The Hong Kong protests started in 2019. This movement protested extradition laws. Mainland China was trying to pass a law that would make it legal to extradite from Hong Kong jurisdiction and be prosecuted in Mainland China / Taiwan. Social Media brought this protest global when the violence started going viral. Police clashed with protestors. Twitter was a major player in this protest going global.
  • Black Lives Matter 2020

    Black Lives Matter 2020
    The Black Lives Matter (BLM) protests started in 2013 with the killing of an unarmed black teenager Trayvon Martin. This is a movement that was revived in the killing of George Floyd in 2020. Twitter again was a major player in this protest. Protests against police brutality and killing of blacks in America. The video of a policeman with his knee on the back of George Floyds neck while on the ground, not resisting arrest, and had 2 other cops on him sparked outrage.
