Walt Disney signs a contract with M. J. Winkler to produce a series of Alice Comedies. The year marks the start of The Walt Disney Company, first known as the Disney Brothers Cartoon Studio. -
Hyperion Avenue ( Disney Studios )
A year later, in 1925, the brothers made a deposit on a Hyperion Avenue lot in the Silver Lake part of Los Angeles. Construction of the new studio began not long after the lot was purchased. -

A piece from the "Silly Symphonies" series, "Flowers and Trees," won an Academy Award for Best Animated Short Film. It was also the first Technicolor cartoon. "Mickey's Revue" was released that same year as well. -

n 1964, Disney releases "Mary Poppins," which becomes the first Disney film to receive an Academy Award nomination for Best Picture. The movie won five other Oscars, including Best Actress to Julie Andrews. It received a total of 13 nominations, and also won Best Film Editing, Best Original Music Score, Best Visual Effects and Best Original Song for "Chim-chim-chiree." -
