  • IBM 350 - 1956

    IBM 350 - 1956
This was the first Disk drive that IBM released. It could hold 3.75MB but to own it it cost 3200$ per month. The size was very big and was not meant to be used in houses.
  • IBM 1301 - 1961

     IBM 1301 - 1961
Although it was the same size as the 350 it had 19MB of storage but the price increased a lot to about 115,500$ to buy and 2,100$ per month
  • IBM 1311 - 1962

    IBM 1311 - 1962
Just the next year IBM released the IBM 1311. This was a lot smaller, They got it from the side of a closet to a small box. This could hold up to 2 million characters and was almost double the power of the 1301.
  • IBM 2311 - 1964

     IBM 2311 - 1964
This was the same size as the 1311 but surprisingly held only about 7.25MB. This lack of storage was a mix of its other features and the size. Some of the features were “scan disk” and “Track Record”.
  • IBM 2314 - 1965

    IBM 2314 - 1965
This hard disk had the capacity to store up to 29MB of storage! This was a big improvement considering the size and the speed
  • IBM 3330 - 1970

     IBM 3330 - 1970
This hard drive was in a nice small shell and was what everyone needed. It had a whopping capacity of 100MB! that would be equivalent to about 26 350’s
  • IBM 3350 - 1976

    IBM 3350 - 1976
This hard disk drive was the first one with non removable disks. There were 2 storage drives on this and combined they could hold 635MB which is a very big improvement.
  • IBM 62PC - 1979

    IBM 62PC - 1979
This 8 inch disk drive was given the nickname piccolo because of its size. Lots of people were starting to buy computers and this was a necessity. Due to its small size it could only hold about 64MB of memory but that is enough.
  • IBM 3380 - 1980

     IBM 3380 - 1980
This was the first hard disk storage that could hold 1GB. Today this is nothing because most iphones usually have 16-32 GB of storage, but imagine back then how big of a achievement this was for IBM and how long it took them to design it.
  • IBM ST-506 - 1980

    IBM ST-506 - 1980
This seagate ST-506 is very closely resembled to the hard disk drive we have today, only being 5 inches this could hold about 5MB of storage.
  • IBM Deskstar 16GP. - 1997

    IBM Deskstar 16GP. - 1997
this hard disk drive was a big leap forward but had the giant price of 420,000$ which was reasonable for the time, but today we can get much better than that.
  • HITACHI 7K1000 - 2007

    HITACHI 7K1000 - 2007
Fast forward 10 years and we get a different company making hard disk drives, but this one is very special because it can hold 1TB! This is the same as 266,667 IBM 350’s (1000000MB). Which is just crazy even for today
