    In 1831 Charles Darwin joined captain FitzRoy on the Beagle voyage around the world that was planned to take 2 years.

    at Darwin's first, stop he was so excited by everything he saw so he decided he should write about what he saw at every stop.
  • Crossing the Equator

    Darwin explains the conditions he was faced after crossing the equator. The constable blindfolded him and he was put on a waterboard than he was tilted into a large bath of water.
  • Salvador, Brazil

    in Brazil, Darwin got to explore rain forests. He found them to be breathtaking and would wonder them for hours. He describes the grasses and flowers as striking.
  • Punta Alta, Argentina

    In Argentina, Darwin saw lots of fossils. They were huge and most of them were of animals he had never seen before.
  • Tierra del Fuego, Argentina

    The caption of the ship sends three native people back to their homeland and he tried to start a Christian mission but fails.
  • Falkland Islands

    The Falkland Islands are not very interesting to Darwin. Not until he finds some fossils of brachiopods.
  • Rio Negro, Argentina

    Darwin explored the grassy lands with the natives called "gauchos"
  • Chiloe Islands, Chile

    While on the islands Darwin sees Mont Osorno erupt and experiences an earthquake that affects him very strongly.
  • Galapagos Islands

    Darwin found different animals, plants, and turtles. He was so amazed by the turtles because of how big they were that he even rode one. The iguanas would swim and eat in the ocean.
  • Sydney, Australia

    In Australia, Darwin discovers different mammals than what he had seen before and wonders why.
  • Cocos Island

    Here Darwin studied coral reefs and tested his theory of atoll formation.
  • Mauritius

    When Darwin was in Mauritius he once took a walk along the coast to town he came across a field of black lava smoothed over with grass.
  • Cape Town, South Africa

    In Cape Town Darwin first saw a bunch of wagons and very tall mountains. Table Mountain was one that was 3,500 feet.
  • Bahia and Pernambuco, South America

    Here Darwin explored jungles and the creatures that live in it. He was very home and seasick.
  • Falmouth, England

    Darwin was very relieved when he got home. The ship he was on was 90 feet long and held 74 people.
