The 13 days begin when the Soviet Union invaides Cuba, which then becomes a communist country. The USA does not want this because that makes the communist boarders spread, which is exactly what the US didn't want to happen. Also, atomic bombs are now closer to the US so more damage can be done. -

The military heads south
The United States Military was heading south to go secretly onto Cuba. Kennedy had the containment policy which ment that he wanted to keep communism to its boarders. This wasn't working because the Soviets invades Cuba, which is near th US. Also, the Soviet atomic bombs could reach the US easer now and be more destructive. -
President Kennedy Visits Soviet Foreign Minister Andrei Gromyko
The soviet foreign minister doesn't think that Kennedy knows about the missiles in Cuba, and also, says that he is just trying to aid Cuba, and that there is not a threat to the US. Kennedy knows that the missiles are suppose to be for the US and also thinks that there really is a threat. -

Kennedy has to attend a meeting in Ohio, but his advisors continue to talk and debate about what actions they should and shouldn't take against the Soviet Union. -

Kennedy returns to Washingon and his advisors have decided to send naval units to Cuba. The naval units plan to get there secretly to help fight the Soviet Union. -

Chairman Khrushchev Replies to Kennedies speech
Kennedy had a famous speech the day before. Chairman Khrushchev Is not,satisfied with the speech and replies saying the Kennedy and the United States are threatening the Soviet Inion and Cuba. -
Kennedy now knows that some of the missiles in Cuba are now operational
Kennedy, knowing that the missiles are operational and could be ready to set off at any point, sends a letter to Chairman Khrushchev asking him to change the course of events. U.N. Secretary General U Thant calls for a cooling off period, which is rejected by Kennedy so the missiles could stay in place -
Kennedy and Khrushchev make a deal for removal if the missiles
The UN sends supplies in but can't proceed to Cuba. Many people are looking for a solution to the crisis. Kennedy and Khrushchev finally come up with a solution; the Soviets will remove missiles if the United States agree to remove the quarantine and promise not to invade Cuba. -

A second letter from Moscow Want tougher terms for the United States. In Cuba,ma U2 plane is shot down and Major Rudolph Anderson dies. Kennedy write a letter to his wife telling her he will be recognized and given a medal. -
Radio Moscow And Khrushchev accept the terms to remove the missiles.
Khrushchev Removes the missile and Kennedy promised not to invade Cuba. They agree to have the solution and both sides accept the terms given.
