    Crusade 1

    Started as a widespread pilgrimage (French and Germany) and ended as a military expedition by Roman Catholic Europe to regain the holy lands. During the crusade, knights, peasants and serfs from many nations of Western Europe travelled over land and by sea.

    Crusade 2

    *December 24th, 1144
    The capture of Edessa a crusader state was captured by the leader of Mosul, thus starting the second crusade.

    The Pope Eugene proclaims the start of the second crusade

    1213 - 1221 Innocent III planned the fifth crusade for when the six year truth ended. He died and papal took over. The fifth Crusade was under control by papal from 1218 to 1221. It achieved military victories, and it failed when dissension arose over accepting the terms they had been offered.

    (1228-1229) The sixth war of the Crusades was said to have been like the fifth because they had failed to gain the Holy Land. The Sixth Crusade was led by Frederick II and launched the war without a blessing from the current pope. After the war ended he was excommunicated.

    Louise IX started the 7th crusade in 1244-50
    The main objective was to free the holy land (Jerusalem) from the Turks, and to free Damaskus from the Egyptians. while they also tried to free the Syrians.
