Computer Programming Languages

  • Plankalkul

Plankalkul is a computer language designed in 1948 by Konrad Zuse for engineering purposes. It was the first high-level programming language to be designed for a computer. Plankalkul, translated in English, stands for "Plan Calculus".
  • MATH-MATIC

MATH-MATIC was dveloped by Charles Katz in 1957. it was intended as an improvement over Fortran. MATH-MATIC led to the development of the first English-language business data processing compiler, B-0 (FLOW-MATIC).
  • Fortran

Fortran is a computer language created in 1957 by John backus that shortened the process of programming and made computer programming more accessible. Fortran enabled the rapid writing of computer programs that ran nealy as efficiently as programs that had been laboriousy hand coded in machine language. Fortran stands for Formula Translation.
  • Lisp

Lisp is a family of computer languages created by John McCarthyvin 1958. Lisp was originally created as a practical mathematical notation for computer programs. The name Lisp derives from "LISt Processor".
  • COBOL

COBOL is a computer language invented in 1959 by a team led by Dr. Grace Murray Hopper. COBOL was the first user-friendly business computer software program. It was created as a part of a US Department of Defense effort to create a portable programming language for data processing. COBOL is an acronym that stands for Common Business-Oriented Language.
  • BASIC

BASIC is a computer language designed in 1964 by john G. Kemeny and Thomas E. Kurtz at Dartmouth College. It was originally developed as a teaching tool for undergraduates; intended to be a computer language for generalists to use to unlock the power of the computer for many purposes. It was the most widely known computer language among developers. BASIC is an acronym that stands for Beginner's All-Purpose Symbolic Instruction Code.
  • LOGO

LOGO is an educational computer language designed and developed in 1967 by Wally Feurzeig and Seymour Papert. The leanguage was originally used to teach concepts of programming related to LISP. The name "Logo" is derived form the Greek logos meaning word or "thought".
  • PASCAL

PASCAL was created in 1970 by Niklaus Wirth to teach students structured programming. PASCAL is a procedural language that includes the traditional array of ALGOL-like control structures with reserved words. It was named in honor of the French mathematician and philosopher Blaise Pascal.
  • SQL

SQL is a database computer language designed by Donald D. Chamberlin in 1970 for managing data in relational database management systems, and originally based upon relational algebra and calculus. SQL is an acronym for 'Structured Query Language'.
  • B

B is a computer language created in early 1970 primarily for non-numeric applications such as system programming. It was designed by D. M. Ritchie and K. L. Thompson. The name may be based on Bon, which was an earlier, but unrelated, programming language that Thompson designed for use on Multics.
  • C

C is a computer language created some time around 1972. It was initially used for system development work, in particular the programs that make-up the operating system. C was developed by Dennis Ritchie and Bell Labs.
  • ML

ML is a general-purpose functional computer language developed by Robin Milner and others in 1973. ML was created to develop proof tactics in the LCF theorem prover. ML stands for metalanguage.
  • ADA

ADA was developed in the early 1980s by a team led by Dr. jean Ichbiah at CII-Honeywell-Bull in France. ADA is a modern programming language designed for large, long-lived applications where reliability and efficiency are essential. ADA was used in honor of Augusta Ada Lovelace.
  • C++

C++ was created some time around 1983 by Bjarne Stroustrup. It was based upon the C language and is used to make writing good programs easier and more pleasant for the individual programmer. C++ is a relative of C, meaning that any valid C program is also a valid C++ program.
  • Python

Python is a widely used computer language created in 1991 by Guido van Rossum. It was made to allow programmers to express concepts in fewer lines of code than would be possible in languages such as C++ or Java.Python's name is derived from the television series 'Monty Python's Flying Circus'.
  • VISUAL

VISUAL is the third-generation computer language created in 1991 by Microsoft. It was derived from BASIC and enables the rapid application development of graphical user interface applications, access to databases using Data Access Objects Remote Data Objects, or ActiveX Data Objects, and creation of ActiveX controls and objects
  • PHP

PHP is a computer language created in 1994 by Rasmus Lerdorf. It was originally used for tracking visits to his online resume, he named the suite of scripts "Personal Home Page Tools". Eventually it became more frequently referenced as "PHP Tools".
  • Java

Java is a computer language created in 1995 by James Gosling, which is now owned by Oracle Corporation. Many of todays applications and websites use Java as its base programming language.
  • Delphi

Delphi is a compouter language released in 1995 for the 16-bit WIndows 3.1. It was developed by Borland and is the descendant of Turbo pascal. Borland developer Banny Thorpe suggested the Delphi codename in reference to the Oracle at Delphi.
