  • Roanoke

    Roanoke
    Settlers sailed to the new world and was led by John White. They sailed to the eastern coast of North America. John White left to get supplies from England, and came back 3 years later.   • Jamestown

    Jamestown
    This was the first permanent British settlement. It was founded by the colonists when they were looking for the new world. It started off ok but the colonists all lacked basic skills like hunting or how to survive. They barely survived because the winter was so bad and they did not know how to hunt.   • Mayflower/Plymouth/Mayflower compact

    Mayflower/Plymouth/Mayflower compact
    The pilgrims left from Holland looking for the new world and religious freedom. It took 60 days and they finally arrived lacking basic knowledge. They named where they landed Plymouth and was now a colony. They then made the Mayflower Compact which gave just and equal laws.     Rhode Island was founded by Roger Williams and four others, Anne Hutchinson, William Coddington, William Arnold, and Samuel Gorton. He was given land from the king for religious freedom.     Maryland Toleration Act
    England was not letting people have religious freedom so they left for America. One of these people was George Calvert. With the religion growing the legislatures passed an act that let everyone have religious freedom as long as you believe in Jesus.   • Carolina

    Carolina
    The Carolina's started when King Charles gave 8 men land south of Virginia. They called this land Carolina. They advertised it as nice but was actually kind of bad with marshy land and people were getting sick with malaria.   • New York

    New York
    The Dutch claimed New York as New Netherlands. The governor was Peter Minuit and he purchased the Manhattan island for 24$. Later King Charles granted the colony to the Duke of York.   • Salutary Neglect

    This was a policy from the British for the American colonies during the 17th century. The trade regulations were not so enforced and supervision between the colonies was not strong. They really did not care as long as they made money for Britain. They started making rules where they could only trade using English ships.     This started with disputes between the indians and the Virginia militiamen. They needed a leader so they brought in Nathaniel Bacon,he wanted to fight the Indians.   • Pennsylvania

    Pennsylvania
    Pennsylvania was founded by William Penn so it could be a haven for the Quakers. Its capital is Philadelphia and was the city where the first and second continental congress was held. This helped the Declaration of Independence be produced which caused the revolutionary war. But after the war it was the second state to ratify it after Delaware.     During the spring of 1692 in Virginia, Reverend Parris' daughter and other girls were having unexplainable "fits", and people were calling it witchcraft.   • Great Awakening/ Enlightenment

    Great Awakening/ Enlightenment
    The Great Awakening was a religious revival in the Americas when religion was not as popular. Everyone was split apart and no one was going to church. Jonathan Edwards came along and was considered the main person of the Great Awakening. He presented the idea that God is an angry God and that we all are sinners that need to ask for forgiveness.   • French-Indian War

    French-Indian War
    This war started because of the expansion of France into the Ohio River which caused problems with the British colonies. The war lasted 7 years and ended with the signing of the Treaty of Paris.     After the French-Indian War King Charles III issued a proclamation that stated anything west of the Appalachian mountains is off limits to the colonists.
