    In the 1940s TVs were invented. In 1948, there were fewer than 17,000 TV sets in the whole United States, but by the end of the 1950s Americans owned about 50 million sets. They were called "idiot boxes" and "boob tubes." This is because people were worried about the violence and sex depictions on the screen. This generation is important because it changed peoples lives by staying up later, and not leaving their houses. It impacted people from the east to west coast watching many historic events

    Truman/Marshall Plan
    The Truman Doctrine is very important. This is because this asked Congress for $400 million to stop communism from spreading to Greece or Turkey. This impacted the US because we lost millions of dollars. The Marshall plan was also very important because the plan was to give $12 billion to aid and rebuild Western Europe. This impacted the US because it lost 12 billion dollars and it impacted western Europe because it got rebuilt.

    On Friday Nov. 22nd, 1963 in Dallas Texas, JFK was in an open car he got shot in the back of the head. He died at 2 pm at Parkland Hospital at the age of 46. All television stations broadcast ed this event for 70 hours without interruption. His Assassin was Lee Harvey Oswald, but the assassin that killed Lee was Jack Ruby. The importance of JFK assassination is that many people liked him and he helped people in poverty. Many more people might be in poverty today if he wasn't president.

    Martin Luther King Jr. was assassinated on April 4th, 1968. The Civil rights activist MLK Jr. was in Memphis TN to support black sanitation workers on strike. He was staying at the Lorraine Motel in room 306 when James Earl Ray shot MLK. He died that afternoon at 2:05pm from a "Remington Game Master" rifle wound to his jaw. James did this to silence the leader of America's non violet civil rights. The death of MLK pretty much ended the civil rights movement. MLK day is on Jan. 15th, his birhtday

    Gerald Ford is a republican that was a Michigan congressmen for 25 years. When he was President his impact was pardoning Richard Nixon.His importance in office was he started trade with the Soviet Union and he was apart of the Warren commission investigating JFK's assassination. This importance was when he pardoned Nixon people began to not like him, but he did start trade and if he didn't we might still be enemies with Russia. He has had two failed assassination attempts on him.

    Ronald Reagan was a Republican. Before he was President Reagan, he was a governor in California and a Movie star from 1937 to 1964. His Impact was he spent $100 million on defense for the Star Wars. He also made Reaganomics, which cut taxes. What he did that was important was, he cut money in education and put the first women justice in supreme court. When there was a failed assassination attempt he said, "Honey, I forgot to duck." He reduced nuclear weapons, but he was also a star in 50 movies.

    George W. Bush is a Republican President. Before he was President, he was a governor of Texas. The impact that happened when he was president is when the dreadful 9/11 happened. Other things he did was make tax relief, and made No Child Left Behind. We were in the war on Torres, but some fun facts are he took 900 vacation days off, which means he took 3 out of 8 years of his presidency he was on vacation. Also, In high school he was a male cheerleader.

    In Washington D.C. on Tuesday, January 20th, 2009 Barack Obama was Inaugurated. The impact was he was the first African American to ever to become President. At his inauguration there was one million people there and many more were watching on TV. This event was one of the most observed events in history. He took the oath of office from Chief Justice John Roberts. Michelle Obama held the Bible that Abe Lincoln used at his 1861 inauguration. The tickets to get in were $1,750- $20,000 a ticket.
