    The Potsdam Conference divided Germany and Austria into four zones.It was also divided that German capital Berlin would also be divided into four zones.
  • Hiroshima

    Hiroshima
    The U.S. dropped its first nuclear bomb on Hiroshima.A city of southwest Honshu,Japan,on the inland sea west of Osaka.
  • Nagasaki

    Nagasaki
    The U.S. dropped its second nuclear bomb on Nagasaki.A city of western Kyushu,on Nagasaki Bay,an inlet of the East China Sea.
  • Vietnam Independence

    Ho Chi Minh proclaimed Vietnam as an independent country.He wanted a communist country.
  • Truman Doctrine

    Truman Doctrine
    President Truman promised to help any country suffering from a communist takeover.He believed it was in his will to fight with them against all countries ran by communism.

    This was a program of economic aid offered by the United Stated to any European Country.The plan was rejected outright by Stalin and any Eastern Bloc country considering accepting aid was reprimanded severely.
  • Berlin Blockade

    Russia's response to the merger of the French,USA,and UK partitions of Berlin was to cut all road and rail links to that sector.This meant that those living in Western Berlin had no access to food supplies and faced starvation.

  • The Warsaw Pact

    The Warsaw Pact was formed with member states.East Germany,Czechoslovakia,Poland,Hungary,Romania,Albania,Bulgaria,and the Soviet Union all agreed to this pact.
  • Hungarian Revolution

    Hungarian Revolution
    This began as a Hungarian protest against Communist rule in Budapest.It quickly gathered momentum and on the 24th October Soviet tanks entered Budapest.The tanks withdrew on the 28th of October and a new government was formed quickly which moved to introduce democracy.
