  • Russian Communist Revolution

    Russian Communist Revolution
    The Russian Communist Revolution was lead by Lenin in Bolshevik. Lenin believed the Soviet Union was being ran ineffectively and he was a strong believer in communism. While he was in administration he ended up overthrowing the government and turning Russia into a communist government. This connects to the Cold War because the Soviet Union was striving to spread their belief in communism while, the United States wanted communism to come to an end.
  • Treaty of Versailles

    Treaty of Versailles
    This treaty was one of the main causes towards communism. The Treaty of Versailles was a result after an important War which caused a great depression and led to the rise of totalitarian dictators. This led to Lenin to be able to rise as a communist totalitarian dictator. This connects to the Cold War because without the Treaty of Versailles the war would not have began over communism versus democracy.
  • League of Nations

    League of Nations
    This organization was created after the end of World War l. This organization was established to promote international peace and cooperation between other nations. This relates to the Cold War because they believed it was important to have the League of Nations to help prevent another war or attack from happening.
  • Yalta Conference

    Yalta Conference
    This was a conference between Franklin D. Roosevelt, the prime minister Winston Churchill and Soviet leader Joseph Stalin met at Yalta to have a conference and all three pledged to support the establishment of governments in Eastern Europe representing the will of the people through free elections. This relates to the Cold War because this is the event that led to the disagreements between the Soviets and United States over who wanted to punish which nation from WWll.
  • Nuremberg Trials

    Nuremberg Trials
    The Nuremberg Trials were established to punish the German leaders for these atrocities as well as for other war crimes. Most of the defendants were found guilty or either imprisoned or sentenced to death. This connects to the Cold War through the Soviets. The Soviets were former Soviet workers that were involved in the Nuremberg Trials during the Cold War.
  • United Nations

    United Nations
    The United Nations was an organization to create peace and security along with developing friendly relationships with other nations. This connects to the Cold War because this organization was brought into place to create less tension between other countries and if the Cold War would not have happened then, neither would have this organization.
  • Baruch Plan

    Baruch Plan
    The Baruch Plan was created by Baruch in order to have an international organization to regulate atomic energy and the control of nuclear weapons. This plan connects to the Cold War because if the Baruch Plan would not have come in to place then, the arms race would not have happened between the United States and the Soviet Union.
  • MAD

    MAD
    MAD represents mutually assured destruction. This was a military strategy created at the end of Kennedy's administration. This relates to a theory that says if one nation uses strong nuclear weapon then, the other nation will also use strong weapons in order to fight back. This connects to the Cold War because this was a strategy created during the Cold War that some nations established organizations and treaties to prevent this military strategy from happening between two countries.
  • Nuclear Deterrent

    Nuclear Deterrents is the military doctrine that an enemy will be deterred from using nuclear weapons as long as they can be destroyed as an outcome from destroying someone else. This connects to the Cold War because this strategy shows that if two nations go against one another than MAD could occur as an outcome from the attack.

    The General Assembly was established to help the United Nations for every member of the United Nations to represent the organization and allowed to vote. This relates to the Cold War because the General Assembly was created in order to help the United Nations organization throughout the battle.
  • Iron Curtain Speech

    Iron Curtain Speech
    This speech was said by Winston Churchill and addressed towards the Soviets. Winston Churchill said "From Stettin in the Baltic to Trieste in the Adriatic and iron curtain has descended across the Continent... I do not believe the Soviet Russia desires war. What they desire is the fruits of war and indefinite expansion of their power." This connects to the Cold War because Winston said this speech to warn other nations about the spread of communism in Eastern Europe.
  • Truman Doctrine

    Truman Doctrine
    President Truman proposed in March 1947 the Truman Doctrine. This Doctrine said the United States promised to aid Greece and support free people anywhere in the world. Truman pledged to fight communism and was known as the policy of containment. This relates to the Cold War because the United States was trying to end the spread of communism and this Doctrine was an important step in maintaining the spread of communism to other nations.
  • Marshall Plan

    Marshall Plan
    The Marshall Plan was established to help Europe recover and was a broad program of economic aid offered originally to all European nations including communist countries. The Soviets did not accept the Marshall Plan and the Soviets did not allow their satellite countries take advantage of the Marshall Plan. This relates to the Cold War because the Soviets were unwilling to take the Marshall Plan. The Soviets believed this was a way for the United States to weaken their communist government.
  • Berlin Airlift

    Berlin Airlift
    The Berlin Airlift was a result of the Soviet's trying to take control of Berlin.The Soviet's turned of all power, blocked all roads and railroads for 324 days. The United States flew 2M tons of supplies like food, clothing, medicine and fuel everyday by cargo planes. This relates to the Cold War because the Soviet's plan was to take over Berlin and soon all of Germany. The United States did not fight back but, instead decided that sending vital supplies to West Berlin was a better outcome.
  • Chinese Communist Revolution

    Chinese Communist Revolution
    The Chinese Communist Revolution began with the leader Mao Zedong. Later on in the revolution Deng Xiaoping joined because Mao demanded the creation of a People's Republic of China that also had a communist government. This revolution relates to the Cold War because this showed the competition between the United States and the Soviet Union on keeping their beliefs and establishing new ways to get their government involved in other countries.

    The North Atlantic Treaty Organization was originally comprised of 12 member nations consisting of Belgium, Canada, Denmark, France, Iceland, Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, the United Kingdom and the United States. This relates to the Cold War because NATO was created to form alliances with other nations in order to defend each other from the communist countries.

    Joseph McCarthy speech
    Joseph McCarthy's speech was established because he believed that their were communists in the country and were also working at the state department. This speech connects to the Cold War because this shows how the United States took another opportunity to try and get ride of all communists in all nations.
  • Korean War

    This was a war between North and South Korea. North Korea was a communist state while South Korea was a anti-communist state. The United States helped aid South Korea by giving supplies and materials throughout the war. This relates to the Cold War because this was one out of multiple events the United States took place in to help prevent or stop the spread of communism between other European countries.

    This was a treaty organization between the Soviet's and other communist countries. The countries involved in the Warsaw Pact were Albania, Bulgaria, Czechoslovakia, Hungary, Poland, Romania and East Germany. This relates to the Cold War because the Warsaw Pact was made for the advantage of the Soviets and other communist countries incase an attack happened the nations would defend one another in order to keep the spread of communism.

    This was the event when the Soviets launched their first satellite into space. Sputnik was part of the Space Race and was a win for Russia. This relates to the Cold War because since Russia was the first to have a satellite that met that they had the advanced technology to be the first nation to spy on other nations and shot missiles across the ocean to other countries.

    This event was when Cuba's leader Fidel Castro claimed Cuba as a communist nation and he was a leader in "The Movement". Cuba was a leader in the battle for quite some years. This related to the Cold War because the West was unable to prevent the spread of communism during the war.

    The Bay of Pigs Invasion was a failed military invasion of Cuba by the United States because the United States wanted the elimination of the new leader, Castro because of his belief of communism. This connects to the Cold War because the United States main goal of the war was to eliminate communism so, when Castro came in to office this was an important event in taking part to stop the spread of communism to other nations.

    Building of Berlin Wall begins
    The Berlin Wall separated West Berlin from East Berlin. The Berlin Wall was made up of large concrete walls, barbed wires and guard towers. The wall was known to be a symbol for being represented as the Iron Curtain which blocked the Soviets from the west throughout the Cold War. The Berlin Wall being build connects to the Cold War because it shows the tense relationship between the Soviets and the United States throughout the battle.

    The United States and the Soviet Union were on the brink of a nuclear war. Cuba had missiles pointing at the direction of the United States. The U.S decided to then responded with nuclear deterrence. This relates to the Cold War because both the United States and the Soviets did not want to launch another attack because of the fear of MAD(mutually assured destruction). This event took place during the Cold War and was an important part in making sure that there was no more attacks.

    With Lyndon B. Johnson is control he sent the U.S. troops to Vietnam to stop the spread of communism. This is associated with the cold war because the goal of the U.S. sending troops to Vietnam is to stop the growth of communism.

    Apollo 11 was when the a spacecraft landed the first two people on the moon. Armstrong and Aldrin were the first two people to step foot on the moon and were also from the United States. This relates to the Cold War because the United States won the space race which was an important event during the Cold War and should United States strength over the Soviet Union.

    The Non-Proliferation Agreement was a treaty signed between nuclear power nations and non-nuclear power nations on agreeing to help prevent the spread of nuclear technology between nations. This relates to the Cold War because the nations that agreed to the treaty were trying to make this a step in helping prevent MAD (mutually assured destruction) from happening.

    The Kent State shooting was an act of protest against the Vietnam war in order for the people to gain peace. The shooters were people who attend this college and were in the Ohio National Guard. This shooting caused several people to die and a couple people were even injured. This connects to the Cold War because college students were protesting the Vietnam War because they did not want the South Vietnam to fall under communism role during this war.

    Deng Xiaoping was a Chinese politician along with the paramount leader of the People's Republic of China after the death of Mao Zedong. During his administration he made some major important market-economy reforms. Deng relates to the Cold War because without him the communist nations would have still been falling apart unlike the anti-communist nations. He was an important leader in keeping the Soviet's belief of communism going.

    Pope John Paul ll was the head of the Catholic Church and sovereign of the Vatican City State. He viewed communism as unacceptable. Pope John Paul ll connected to the Cold War because he disagreed with communism and went against the Soviets to help prevent communism in other nations.

    Soviets invade Afghanistan
    During this specific event the United States were arming the Afghans with weapons to fight against the Soviets. This event angered the Soviets leading them to surrender against the Afghans and there government eventually collapsing. This relates to the Cold War because The United States decided to get involved with this invasion and supported Afghanistan in which trying to overthrow the communist government to stop communism spreading.

    Margaret Thatcher was a British stateswomen who was a Prime Minister of the United Kingdom along with being the leader of the Conservative Party. She was the longest lasting Prime Minister and the first women to hold that office spot. She relates to the Cold War because she wanted the United States to win the battle and was a strong believer in stopping the spread of communism.

    Lech Walesa is a retired politician and labor activist. He co-founded Solidarity, the Soviet bloc's first independent trade union. Lech was also a president for Poland. Lech Walesa related to the Cold War because he came in to action with trying to help the United States with preventing the spread of communism.

    This wall separated East and West Germany. The purpose of this wall was to keep people from leaving East Berlin. This wall symbolizes an "iron curtain". This connects to the Cold War because the wall creates tension between the two countries.

    The Berlin Wall was built and divided East and West Berlin from each other for quite some years. During Ronald Reagans presidency he decided to convince the Soviet Union leader to take down the Berlin Wall. This event relates to the Cold War because this was an important event that ended the Cold War because the East and West were no longer separated since the Soviet leader agreed to take down the wall.
