The domino affect again when the communist influence in the north begins to "suck in" Vietnam. The fall of Dien Bien Phu resulted in the split of Vietnam into North and South Vietnam, like Korea. This is the very beginning of the Vietnam War. More countries are now falling to communism. -

Soviet Union Disbands
The Cold War comes to an end with the closing of the U.S.S.R. As said by Gorbachev when the Cold War ended whenn the U.S.S.R collapsed "...We live in a new world. The Cold War has ended, the arms race has stopped, as has the insane militarization which mutilated our economy, public psyche and morals. The threat of a world war has been removed.
