  • Missouri Compromise

    Missouri Compromise
    The Missouri compromise was a compromise to divide the Louisiana Purchase. The north got everything above the 36 parallel and the south got everything under. Expect Missouri which went to the south, and Maine was added for equilibrium.
  • Nat Turner's Rebellion

    Nat Turner's Rebellion
    The Nat Turner's Rebellion was a rebellion against slavery where Nat Turner and a group of slaves attacked their masters and killed 60 white people. Unfortunately, all the slaves were killed and punishment became more severe in fear there would be another rebellion.
  • Compromise of 1850

    Compromise of 1850
    The Compromise of 1850 brought Texas as a slave state, Cali as a free one, made slave trade illegal in DC, not slavery and it allowed the Mexican Cession to decide if they wanted slavery by voting. Even with all of this, southern senators made the Fugitive Slave Act, making people return escaped slaves, even in a free state.
  • Uncle Tom's Cabin

    Uncle Tom's Cabin
    Harriet Beecher Stowe wrote a book called Uncle Tom's Cabin. This book detailed the horrors of slavery and how bad it really was. This book was so bad, it made many of the people who read it abolitionists.
  • Kansas Nebraska act

    Kansas Nebraska act
    The Kansas Nebraska act was put in place to repeal the Missouri Compromise and allow the territories of the Louisiana Purchase vote on whether they should allow cancer, starting with Kansas and Nebraska. The reason this didn't work well is because many others illegally immigrated to sway the vote causing a battle called "Bleeding Kansas."
  • Dred Scott Ruling

    Dred Scott Ruling
    The Dred Scott Ruling was a supreme court case where a slave who went to a free state as a slave and tried to become free. The court ruled that slaves were property, african Americans had no rights.
  • John Brown Raid

    John Brown Raid
    Extreme abolitionist John Brown attempted a raid on Harpers Ferry a southern armory to begin a slave rebellion. This of course failed and he was hung for treason and murder.
  • The 1860 Election

    The 1860 Election
    The 1860 election was the final event before the Civil War. When Abraham Lincoln was elected, the Confederacy attacked the Ft. Sumter base in South Carolina. Lincoln's first act was to outlaw secession. This caused an outrage and it directly led to the Civil War
