    1.) Lincoln was elected because the Democratic party was divided so they had 2 runners. One Demomocratic party was po-slave the other anti slave.
    2.) Lincoln was an abolitionists and was against slavery. Aberham didnt want to fight a war but didnt want seccision ethier.
  • Texas Cedes from Union

    1.) Texas ceceded from the Union because they had a large slave owner poulation. Mayor Sam Houston was apoused to ceceding from the union because it would weakin the U.S.
    2.) One of the first battles TX soldiers fought in was the battles of manasas were the 1st, 5th and 10th TX brigades fought. Some immigrants didnt support the Pro slave confederacy such as the german immigrants.

  • Battle at fort Sumter

    1.) Generat P.G.T Beauregard in charge of the confederate forces orderd an artillary attack on the fort.
    He had a force of 6,000 militia at his disposal.
    2.) At 2:30 the next day the Union forces under the command of Major Robert Anderson surrenderd.
  • Battle of Galveston

    1.) Confederate forces under Major Genearal John B. Magruder attacked and forced back Union forces from Galveston. The Union blocaked was lifted for 4 days.
    2.) Galveston was confederate occupied for the remander of the war. Major General Magruders forces captured 2 Union ships during the battle

    1.) The battle of gettysburgh was cosiderd the turning poit in the civil war because the confederats had a large string of victories leading up to Gettysburgh. The battle lasted for 3 days and had the largest number of casualties in the whole war
    2.) The union forces were lead by Maj. Gen. George Meade's Army of the Potomac and the Confederates by Gen. Robert E. Lee's Army of Northern Virginia.

    1.) The batlle was a naval/land battle were Union forces under Frederick Crocker attemted to attack and take fort griffian. They were unsuccesful in capturing the fort.
    2.) The confederate forces under Richard W. Dowling were succesful in holding the fort. The confederates took no losses and sunk 2 ships killed and wounded 200 men.

    1.) The red river campaign was a seris of union attacks in louisiana led by Natheanial Banks. The union objectives were To destroy the Confederate Army commanded by Taylor and To capture Shreveport, Louisiana, Confederate headquarters.
    2.) The Confederate forces under Richard Taylor succesfuly defended the Red River valley due in part to Union mismanegment and poor planning. The confederate held off 30,000 troops with a force of 6,000-15,000 men only losing 4,300 casualties.

    1.) General Robert .E Lee contacted Lieutenant General Ulysses S. Grant requesting to meet about the surrender of the army of northern virginia. Shortly after 12:00 Grant gave his anwser that he agreeded under conditions.
    2.) Robert E. Lee rushed to the little hamlet of Appomattox Court House, where the Appomattox county court house stood, and waited for Grant's arrival to surrender his army.

    1.) This is an american holiday selabrated in honor of the emacipation of the abolition of slavery in the u.s. President Abraham Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation on September 22, 1862, with an effective date of January 1, 1863. It announced that the united states would start hireing free black men for the military. After the war many cotton farmers flaed to texas and brought there slaves with them at about 250,000 slaves to texas.

    1.) From 1863 to 1865, Presidents Abraham Lincoln and Andrew Johnson took moderate positions designed to bring the South back to normal as quickly as possible. After there terms Ulysees S. Grant agreed with the radical reconstruction and enforced the protection of the freeded african americans.
    2.) Grant tried to suppres the acts of the KKK but had trouble withe the carpet baggers and scalywags. The widesrpread corruption by the carpet baggers and ruinous taxes caused many problems
