    What was surprising was not either side was killed.Fort sumter was taken control by the union that made the charleston mad. The confederate won.The confederate forces to take control of three nearby forts. They wanted to remove the union soldiers from the southern soils.

    The union won. The battle was known the bloodiest day in U.S. military history. By nightfall 26,000 men were dead or wounded , makes it the bloodiest day in american history. Gen. Robert e lee and confederates were stopped at antietam in maryland and numerical superior union forces.

    lincoln saved all slaves because he was against slaves and how they are treated. Lincoln did not save all slaves because it did not apply to slaves that stayed in the union. Like delaware,kentucky,maryland, and missouri. Five days after the battle of antietam lincoln issued this document stated that january 1, 1863, all enslaved slaves in the confederacy were freed.

On july 1, 1863, lee's army met union troops under general george meade in a small farm town of gettysburg, pennsylvania. In all about 51,000 were killed or wounded at the battle of gettysburg. It was the bloodiest battle fought in north america.

    The battle was important because it tells how they surrender to gen from the mississippi river. The union/gen won. The last confederate stronghold to the mississippi river, surrenders to gen. Grant and the army move to west after a six week siege. with the union now in control of the mississippi.

    General lee surrendered at the appomattox court house in virginia. Grant won. Voters re-elect abraham lincoln. In march 1865, Grant closing in on lee at petersburg. After the union siege, confederate soldiers defending the city were near starvation. on april 2, lee took his army west, hoping to find food and gather more confederate troops.
