  • Trent Affair

    Trent Affair
    Lasted: November-December 1861
    The Trent Affair was a foreign criss between the US and Great Britain. Two Confederate envoys were arrested on a British ship for trying to gain support for the South. Britain, who had been neutral about the war, was furious about the seizing of their ship. Lincoln released the ship to avoid a physical conflict.
  • Battle of Shiloh

    Battle of Shiloh
    Lasted: April 6-7, 1862
    Place: Hardin County, Tennessee
    Confederate Army attempted to break Union line-up so that they could take Pittsburg. Union stayed strong, and the Confederate Army was unable to take Pittsburg.
  • Battle of Antietam

    Lasted: September 16-18, 1862
    Place: Washington County, Maryland
    The battle ended in a draw between the Army of Potomac (Union Army) and the Confederate Army. Confederate Army retreated which the Union counted as a "victory".

    The Emancipation Proclamation was orated by Abraham Lincoln. It gave freed all slaves in Southern states, and even though it didn't legally free slaves the Emancipation Proclamation was one of the most important events of the war.

    Place: Adams County, Pennsylvania
    Confederate Army made an attempt to take Gettysburg from Union Army;however, they failed allowing the Union Army to stay in control.
  • New York Draft Riots

    New York Draft Riots
    Lasted: July 13-16, 1863
    Place: New York
    Congress had passed a law that all men between the ages of 20-45 were liable for military service. When officials tried to enforce this law in New York, rioters began to troch government buildings. 1,155 people died from this riot, and 300 of those deaths were soldiers and police officers.

    Place: Catoosa & Walker County
    Confederates break through Union Army and take Chickamauga. Union Army then retreated Chattanooga.

    The Gettysburg Address was given by Abraham Lincoln after one of the bloodiest battles of the Civil War. It was the official dedication ceremony for the National Cemetery of Gettysburg.

    Grant planned on taking siege of Chattanooga from its Confederate hold. Grant won causing the Confederate Army to withdraw.

    Lincoln's plan proposed that states could be reinstated into the Union if 10% of the 1863 votes of that particular state swore an oath to the US and promised to go along with the Emancipation Proclamation.

    Place: Fort Pillow
    Confederates killed over 300 African American soldiers instead of taking them as regular prisoners of war.

    Place: Spotsylvania County, Virginia
    Union and Confederate Armies fought each other for two whole weeks for Spotsylvania. By the end of two weeks, Union Army retreated.

    Place: Atlanta, Georgia
    Union forces led by Sherman take Atlanta from the Confederate Army. Sherman then evacuated the city and burned it to the ground.

    This bill proposed Reconstruction in the South. It proposed that states readmitted to Union only if majority of southern states agreed to the Ironclad Oath.

    Confederates almost broke through Union lines to take Franklin, but they failed. Franklin was yet another Union victory.

    John Bell Hood led the Confederate Army in a defeat against George H. Thomas, who led the Union Army.

    Hayes got the White House over his Democratic oponent Tilden. Hayes only got this, however, Hayes had to retrieve his troops from South Carolina, Florida, and Louisiana since they(the troops) were essential to the survival of Republican state governments.
