    AT 4:30 AM the Confederates fired upon Fort Sumter, The battle lasted 34 hours.The Union was forced to surrender and The Confederacy won. Surprisingly not one soldier from either side had died in battle.
  • Battle of Antietam

    Battle of Antietam is known as the bloodiest day in U.S. history.The Confederacy is stopped at Antietam by Union forces,By nightfall 26,000 men are dead,wounded, making it the bloodiest day in American history.Robert.E.Lee withdraws to Virginia. The Union had won the battle.The Union victory resulted in President Abraham Lincoln issued his Preliminary Emancipation Proclamation on September 22, 1862.

    Five days after the Battle of Antietam Abraham Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation. This document stated that on Jan. 1, 1863, all enslaved people in the Confederacy were Freed,But this did not apply to the slave states that had stayed in the Union--Delaware, Kentucky, Maryland, and Missouri.

    Voters re-elected Abraham Lincoln.In March 1865,Grant was closing in on Lee at Petersburg.After the union siege the confederate soldiers were near starvation.On April 2, Lee took his army west,hoping to find food and get more confederate troops.As a result peterson fell.The next day, Richmond, the confederate capital fell.The war was finally over.On April 9, 1865, Lee surrendered to Grant at Appomattox Court House in Virginia.
