    Brown vs. Board of Education
    Supreme Court ruling that stated that segregation in public schools was unconstitutional. It overturned the 1896 ruling of Plessy vs. Ferguson that stated 'separate but equal' was ok.
  • Emmett Till

    Emmett Till
    14 year old black boy was brutally killed after he whistled at a white girl. The killers went to court, and had an all white jury, and was proved innocent. They later claimed they killed him in a mazagine months later.
  • Rosa parks

    Rosa parks
    Rosa Parks refused to give up her seat for a white man on a bus. She was arrested, and the blacks started the bus boycott which lasted close to a year, and showed their determination to end segregation.
  • George Wallace Speech

    George Wallace Speech
    George Wallace went to University of Alabama and blocked the doorway so blacks students couldn't go in. He made a speech that said 'segregation now, segregation forever'. Later, he stepped down after being asked by the National Guard.

    Blacks started in march in Montgomery, and were attacked by the cops. They used tear gas and dogs and more.
