13th Amendment

The United States granted African-American men the right to vote. -
Plessy v. Ferguson
This court case went back on a Louisiana state law that said daily life was still segregated as long as there was equal opportunity for both races. -
Nineteenth Amendment
The United States now legally guarantees American women the right to vote. -
Brown v. Board of Education
The case violated the equal protection clause and it ultimately desegregated schools. -
24th Amendment
This Amendment forbid the federal and state governments from taxing voters during federal election.. -
Civil Rights Act of 1964
The law prohibited discrimination in many ways against African-Americans. In public places, desegregation in schools an other public places, and also made employment discrimination illegal. -
Voting Rights Act of 1965
Enabled African Americans to register and vote. This Act also prohibited sneaky tactics used to keep African-Americans away from the voting polls. -

The purpose of this is for society to be more diversified. -
Equal Rights Amendment
This Amendment seeks to end the legal distinctions between men and women in examples of divorce, property, employment. -
Title IX
Title IX protects people in all education programs or activities that receive federal financial assistance from discrimination based on sex. -
Regents of the University of California v. Bakke
Went back on a case that violated the Equal Protection Clause. -
Bowers v. Hardwick
The Supreme Court decided not to protect the right of gay adults to engage in private, consensual sodomy because the Constitution does not. -
Americans with Disabilities Act
This Act prevents discrimination against disabled people in many different areas of life. Such as: public life, schools, and transportation. -
Shelby County v Holder
A section of the Voting Rights Act was invalidated which gave the way for how jurisdictions were going to be covered in section 5. -
Obergefell v. Hodges
This case requires all states to give same-sex couples the license to get married and to recognize all marriages that were lawfully performed out of state. -
Voter ID Laws
Laws put in place forcing citizens to use a form of government issued identification (usually a drivers license) depending on your state.
