    The Rise of Generation Y

    Generation Y are the youth that was born during the 1980's and the 1990's. This generation is thought to have changed how people work and communicate through the increased usage of digital technology. Generation Y during the 1990's became massive consumers of technological advances and have contributed largely to changes in the workplace and across a vast array of organizational functions at all levels of society.

    The Use of Personal and Mobile Technology

    The use of personal home computers and smart devices have transformed our world. Organizations have had to change how they think and function to thrive in a world that is continuously connected. The field of technology dramatically impacts the workspace and how individuals conduct business. More importantly, how we communicate has changed dramatically and the need to "get connected" has become an element of survival across organizational fields.
  • Americans with Disabilities Act

    The Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 was passed to provide civil protections to Americans with disabilities. This was especially true for protections in the right to work and the right to education. This legislation was an extension of the EEOC legislation and has transformed the opportunities for people who have disabilities.
  • The World Wide Web

    The internet went live to the public for use on August 6th, 1991. This tool was not widely recognized as a globalization tool at first. This was something that has been quickly revolutionized into an industry and the most widely used tool in business and organizations worldwide.
  • Civil Rights Act of 1991

    The Civil Rights Act of 1991 reiterated the principles of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. This piece of legislation made employment discrimination based on color, race, gender and religious creed illegal and also extended protections for women and minorities.
  • Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA)

    The Family Medical Leave Act ensured protections to the employment status of workers in cases where extended periods of leave from work was necessary (mostly in cases of childbirth, adoption, and other serious illnesses). While the wages during this time off are not protected, the employment status of the worker is if they have met certain ragulations and standards in their employment status.

    "Just Google it" is a term that modern day society would not know how to function without. Google seemed to have put the world at our fingertips. While Google was not as advanced at the launch date as we have come to know it, Google has transformed how people consume information and how organizations must operate in a world of instant gratification of knowledge.

    The Welcome of Generation Z

    There seems to be little consensus about the definitive dates that characterize Generation Z but it is generally known that these are the individuals that some refer to as the "YouTube Babies". This generation has grown up using the internet and has contributed to the demand for alternatives. This cohort of people heavily rely on technology to complete tasks and have forced changes in areas of business, transportation, communication, socialization, and enterprise just to name a few.

    The War on Terror

    The War on Terror began with the attacks on the United States at the World Trade Centers. This war has contributed to many social and organizational movements but was primarily seen in the areas of government and economics. Still, some organizations feel the effects of this from racial profiling to security threats such as in the transportation and national security sectors.
  • Launch of Major Social Media - Facebook

    The launch of social media, specifically Facebook, to the masses has influenced how organizations to do business and created the need for a 24/7 presence in the digital world. People are always watching and use social media as a significant communication platform where organizations have had to adapt their means of communication to reach the majority market where they are. Facebook and social media has implications for how organizations market who they are and communicate with their audience.

    The Great Recession

    The Great Recession greatly influenced how organizations function financially and collaboratively. During this time, organizations began to find new ways to cut costs. The advancement of technology and social networking platforms allowed organizations to create different work environments where travel costs and physical space were reduced saving, in some cases, millions of dollars in expenses.
  • Fair Minimum Wage Act

    The Fair Minimum Wage Act of 2007 was an amendment of the Fair Labor Standards Act of 1938. This amendment established the federal regulation to raise the minimum wage to $7.25 per hour. Many amendments have been proposed to the original 1938 legistlation and several have been passed. The minimum wage aspect has been one of the most debated aspects as it pertains to the workplace and how organizations must operate.
  • Affordable Care Act

    The Affordable Care Act required that businesses (with the exemption of small business owners) must provide their employees with at least the minimum level of healthcare coverage. The Affordable Care Act was intended to offer protection to the American people through mandating that individuals have access to health insurance. To date, many individuals have access to health insurance but still cannot afford the premiums and many of the minimum level policies still leave gaps in coverage.
  • Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) is Rescinded

    The Trump administration formally announced that DACA and the DREAM Act would no longer provide protection for children who brought to America as illegal immigrants. Rescinding immigration protections from 800,000 young adults. This political action has been one of many landmarks in current social movements that have divided the American public. Organizations can no longer educate or employ these individuals legally, but on a larger scale must navigate a hostile political divide publically.
