    The Cattle Kingdom
Cattle herding after the Civil war became a marketable business for ranchers. The Cattle Kingdom was seen in Southern Plains, like Texas. This industry relates to an economic change over time theme, because it became lucrative and time changes occur after the Civil War. The development of transcontinental railroads allowed the business to expand eastward and make large profits. However, the cattle herding business ended after the invention of barbed wires.

New York in late 19th century
Socioeconomic changes were seen in the late 19th century. In New York, rapid industrialization and urbanization built a thriving community. Production of cheap steel and the advancement of architecture made it possible to construct tall buildings. This time period relates to the theme, because New York became an economic market for all businesses. Perhaps the shift of business from Southern plains to East (such as New York) had some influence.

    Open Door Notes
Open Door Notes were a series of circular notes that was introduced by America to acquire China’s vast market. The notes, drafted by Secretary Hay, were an agreement that urged competitors to agree to open all spheres with no special taxation on transported goods. This period relates to the theme by showing another economic advantage for businesses in places such as New York, as a result of the Open Door Notes. As America became more financially stable over time, so did the power of politics.
  • Dollar Diplomacy

    Dollar Diplomacy
“Dollar diplomacy” was a decision made my President William Howard Taft to use U.S. currency in place of bullets to secure foreign economic markets. Because the U.S economy was powerful, Taft used it to force other countries to agree to benefit America. The U.S. dominated the western hemisphere, and the rest of the world feared America and its economy. This period relates to the main theme by showing the economic power of America, due to a gradual change in time in the early early 1900's.
  • World War I

    World War I
The first world war was a hard time for all Americans, but the government unitized the economy to benefit war efforts, a period which relates to economic changes over time. Businesses profited from the war, because they produced military supplies - an event which relates to the economic theme. Mass production meant that businesses needed more laborers, subsequently decreasing unemployment rate. Women and minorities were hired for handsome wages and better hours.
  • WWI Aftermath

    WWI Aftermath
The aftermath of WWI was a financially difficult time for many workers. Unlike when war-related products were in high demand, factories no longer needed a lot of people to now produce household goods. Workers were paid the same wages but the cost of living only became more expensive. In cities like New York, laborers went on strike for better wages and better hours. Time change in economy is seen by the backward shift in finances for many Americans after WWI.
