The population increased, but taxes and government revenues were set at a low rate, which practically became into an eventual fiscal crisis. Corruption began, the rebels tested the legitimacy of the government and the ruling elites failed to change their way of thinking in the face of changes in the world system.

    The dispute was unleashed due to the opium trade, which was seen from both sides in very different ways. The emperor censured opium in China because of its negative effect on the population. The British, on the other hand, saw opium as the ideal market that would help them compensate for the great trade with China. The Emperor prohibit the trade of Opium.After the Opium War, the European powers imposed unequal treaties, free trade, extraterritoriality and ports under foreign control.

During the conflict, it occupied important areas of southern China.It was only put down after the death of millions of Chinese by regional armies.Final victory of the Manchu Dynasty and its allies; considerable weakening of the Manchu.

    It was a movement, which emerged in against the foreign influence in commerce, politics, religion and technology of the last years of the 19th century. In August 1900, about 230 foreigners, thousands of Chinese Christians, an unknown number of rebels, their sympathizers and other Chinese had been killed in the revolt and its repression.The extent of popular anti-Western feeling turned into widespread violence.

    Was a revolution that overthrew the Manchu Dynasty and established the Republic of China. The emperor died and Pu Yi was a 2 year old boy became in emperor. Prince Chun increased taxation.The revolution began when the govt lost control of the MILITARY ,SOLDIERS in Wuchang revolted and rebellion spread quickly. Pu Yi abdicated, the Manchu dynasty ended and the first president was the Dr. Sun Yixian. The Double Tenth was just a triumph of regionalism.

    May Fourth Movement
    Was an anti-imperialist, cultural, and political movement growing out of student participants in Beijing protesting against the Chinese government's weak response to the Treaty of Versailles, especially allowing Japan to receive territories in Shandong which had been surrendered by Germany after the Siege of Tsingtao. These demonstrations sparked national protests and marked the upsurge of Chinese nationalism like the GMD party.
  • The First United Front

    The First United Front
    Both the GMD and the CCP wanted to unified China. They agreed that the first step to this was to get rid of the warlords and they formed together the First United Front.The 3rd principal of Yixian "Peoples Livelihood" was often called socialism which convinced the commitern that this was a party they could back. The GMD set out on the Northern Expedition to crush the warlords of central and northern China, finally they took Beijing, Shanghai and Nanjing.

    The CCP were forced to retreat into Jianxi province in order to survive the GMD. They name this region the Jianxi Soviet, they were able to spread they ideas in the mountains and be hided, they based their ideas into marxism and leninism, they said that the revolution was based in the peasants, they started to organizing and recruiting to the war.
