    The french and indian war
    Also known as the Seven Years War it was a massive conflict involving Austria, England, France, Great Britain, Prussia, and Sweden. The conflict was in Europe, India, and North America. The English did eventually come to obtain the colonial outposts, but at a great cost, resulting in debt nearly destroying the English government. It was that debt that caused the escalation of tensions leading to the Revolutionary War.

    The sugar act
    The act also included goods to be taxed including sugar, certain wines, coffee, pimiento, cambric and printed calico, and more. The enforced tax on molasses caused the almost immediate decline in the rum industry in the colonies.
  • The Gaspee Affair

    The Gaspee Affair
    A royal navy ship called the Gaspee was captained by a man named Lieutenant William Duddington who was known for looting other ships without orders to do so. One day a local vessel tricked Duddington into shollow waters and the Gaspee ran aground. The next day villagers boarded the ship and looted it and then burned it.
