  • Emmitt Till Murdered

    Emmitt was visiting down south when he was abducted and brutally beat. Eventually found, unrecognizable and the people who did it were found not quilty, and couldn't be tried again do to double jeproday. An event that brought the black community together.
  • Montgomery Bus Boycotts

    The result of rosa parks refusing to give up her seat and getting jailed for it. It lasted over a year and all African Americans didn't ride the bus destroying the governments income
  • Little Rock 9

    A group of nine african american students who were chosen to attend a previously segregated school in Arkansas. They were met with lote of hostility and required federal intervention to get in
  • Lunch Counter sit-ins (Greensboro start date)

    organizd by studdents who would go in and sit down at white only lunch counters refusing to move until served. Gained national attention and showed how non violence is met with violence against black people.
  • Freedom Bus Rides

    happened in the 60's were activist rode through the south protesting unfair laws. The wanted to change the unfair segregation laws in public places.
  • Birmingham protests

    A series of non violent protests led by Mlk bringing attention to the discrimination. Led to provoking bull corner and getting international news.
  • March On Washington

    The march on Washington for jobs and freedom was a big event with over 250,000 people in attendance. It had many key speeches including the famous I have a dream speech by MLK.
  • Freedom (Mississippi) Summer

    The freedom summer was when civil rights activist wanted to increase the number of African american voters. It brought students to help people learn and get pass racist intervention
  • Civil Rights Act of 1964

    Law passed that prohibits discrimination on the basis of race, color, religion, sex or national origin. Changed the workplace and made things more equal.
  • Selma Marches

    Marches organized to demand their voting rights and empohazize the need for federal intervention. marchs showed how corrupt the government was and included bloody sunday where they were attacked.
  • Voting Rights Act of 1965

    the voting rights act aimed to overcome government barriers that prohibited African Americans to vote. It made it federal and got rid of the poll tests that many African Americans couldn't complete.
