  • Food Handlers Class

    Food Handlers Class
    Over 150 people participated in a Food Handlers Class to receive their Food Handlers card.
  • IMPACT Testing

    Seventy Seven .6th 7th and 8th grade students students participated. These students did not participate in the IMPACT Testing last year.
  • BSMS "Call Me Maybe" Music Video

    BSMS Call Me Maybe6th, 7th and 8th grade students in Mr Thomas's classes participated in the production of a music video. Student's created their own 8 counts to this song.
  • Back to School Social

    Bridge Street students enjoyed themselves while participating in severall activities like dance dance revolution, Wii, board games and dancing in the gym. This social was right after school from 4 to 6.
  • BSMS Cheer Clinic

    On Saturday, September 8th the BSMS Cheerleader held a cheer clinic for students from the local elementary schools.
  • 10th period Learning Skills class played "Prepositional Phrase PIG".

    7th grade Reading/Language Arts teacher Jessica Birch took her 10th period Learning Skills class outside and played Prepostional Phrases PIG. Students had to create a prepositional phrase to earn a shot with the basketball. Then we used regular PIG rules to go along with it.
  • Marti Stephan Run/Walk

    Marti Stephan Run/Walk
    The second annual Marti Stephan Run/Walk was another huge success at BSMS. BSMS 8th grader Luke Knollinger has participated in this event both years.
  • JAM World Record Fitness Possible

    BSMS Jam World RecordOn September 27th at 9:00am all BSMS students participated in the JAM WORLD RECORD EVENT. BSMS students participated in a one minute workout to the the song mission impossible. Students participted in 6 movements for 10 seconds each. Movements included; The spy look, run in place, jumping jacks, swiming move, jump rope, and raise the roof.
  • BSMS WALK and Roll Day

    BSMS WALK and Roll Day
    On October 6, 2012 BSMS held their first Walk and Roll Day at the walking trail. Students were encourgaged to bring their parents, siblings, and pets to the walking trail. A totla of about 25 students, parents, siblings and pets participated. Participants walked, rode bicycles or roller bladed along the trail for about an hour.
  • National Walk to School Day

    National Walk to School Day
    Buses and parents dropped off their students at the Toy and Train Museum. Teachers lined the students path to BSMS.
  • Relay for Life Walk

    October 25, 2012 – Over 100 Bridge Street Middle School students participated in the Relay for Life. This event was organized by Heather Lewis our school counselor.
    Showing that they can make a difference our students again raised over $2000 by walking for this great cause.

    Bridge Street students dressed in their halloween costumes and enjoyed themselves while participating in severall activities like dance dance revolution, Wii, board games and dancing in the gym. This social was and evening social from 6 to 8.

    Bridge Street students with perfect attendance enjoyed themselves while participating in severall activities like dance dance revolution, Wii, board games and dancing in the gym. This social was from 9 to 10am.
  • Veteran's Race

    BSMS hosted the Veteran;s 5K Race. The race started at BSMS and finished in downtown Wheeling.

    180 BSMS students earned the opportunity to go skating at Wheeling Park
  • Perfect Attendance Social

    100 BSMS students in the Perfect Attendance Social. Students participated in exergames, table games, dance.
  • First Day of JUMP ROPE CLUB

    We had 5 students stay after school and participate in our new afterschool JUMP ROPE CLUB. Students are talking and interest is growing.
  • SPACE JAM - Jammin Minute

    BSMS participated in the Valentine's Day SPACE JAM Jammin Minute. At 9:00 8th grade met and participated in the gym while the 6th and 7th grades participated in their classrooms.
  • BSMS Health Fair

    Friday March 8th we held our first Health Fair. All of our students picked and attended four, 30 minute sessions in which they received very important health and wellness information from the many guest speakers that we invited
  • 8th Grade Family Fun Night

    About 20 8th grade students and their parents attended Family Fun Night. Parents and students were given valuable information concerning pertaining to how to establishing grants and scholarships for college. Pizza, a vegie and fruit tray were served as refeshments.
  • Healthy Kids Walk

    April 26, 2013 – Sixty Seven students raised money to participate in the Healthy Kids Walk sponsored by our local YMCA. During their resource block students we led on a supervised 2 mile walk on the walking trail. At 2:00 students walked to the YMCA for some fun.

    7th Grade Survivor Challenge WESTest Review

    All 7th Graders participated in a Survivor Challenge WESTest Review. Students went outside and looked for flags which contained questions and clues to where the next flag is.
  • 8th Grade Olympics WESTest Review

    All 8th Graders participated in the Olympic WESTest Review. Students were grouped and given a team color. Students wore their team color and participated in physical activites while reviewing core subject content standards.
  • Family Fun Night

    This year's Family Fun Night was entirely wellness activities. Kathleen Wack and students from WLU set and organized 8 wellness activity stations. Each activity station included a different healthy snack.
  • Stability Balls as Student Chairs

    Bridge Street received two classroom sets of stability balls from RESA 6. Mrs. Moffa and Mrs Troullos classrooms were selected to receive them. Students were shon a power point over the correct procedures to get on and maintain balnce while on the stability ball. Students also practiced various movement activities as well as stability rules.
  • Wellness Staff Development No School Teachers Report

    Beginning with our seventh snow day teachers must report and be provided staff development. Rick Thomas presented to our faculty a one hour Wellness Staff development session. In this session our faculty and staff participated in a variety of fun movement activities in the gym. We also went to our new fitness center room where Mr. Thomas explained how to properly use the equipment as well as the benefits of each machine.

    Julie Schultz presented to our faculty a one hour Wellness Staff development session. In this session our faculty and staff learned the basics of Mid-Eastern Belly Dance in the gym. This sessions disspelled myths of Mid-Eastern Belly Dance. It was fun and Julie did a great job.

    From 1:30 to 3:20 students enjoyed several social activities in the gym and cafeteria.
  • Sex Myths

    Our 8th grade boys and girls in separate sessions learned about all the facts about sex. The presenter was very professional and was able to relate the information in an age appropriate delivery from. Many students asked quality questions which fostered the knowledge and understanding of the topic.

    During the summer Brian Blazer form our local YMCA brought his capmer to BSMS to used our fitness center.

    OCS Extended Learning Program come to BSMS

    This summer the OCS Middle School Extended Learning Progam was based at BSMS because of our new fitness center. This program includes students from all four middle schools. In an effort to help improve personal fitness and academic scores, all students and instructors participated in using the fitness center as well as a variety of activities in our gym each day.
  • OCS K-12 Health and Physical Education Inservice

    On Monday, August 11th I presented an inservice to the OCS K-12 health and physical education teachers. The session was very good we shared ideas and discusses to improve our students knowledge and the benefits of health and wellness.
  • BSMS Morning Walk

    Each morning when students arrive to school they either go to the cafeteria for breakfast or enter the gym and begin walking.

    Daily the students at BSMS have the opportunity of receiving a FREE second chance breakfast between their secon and third periods.

  • Food Handlers Class

    On Tuesday, August 19th we held a food handlers class for any handling food at school events, concessions areas. There were about 75 adults and students in attendance. Participants watched a video from the CDC and there was a question and answer session following the video.
  • T - 25 Fitness Workout

    On Wednesday, August 20 we had seven teachers participate in our first T - 25 Fitness Workout in the cafeteria. The workout was lead by our principal Raquel McLeod.

    FitStep Pro Pedometers

    On September 15th all health/physical students began to wear the FitStep Pro pedometers. The pedometers were obtained through a grant written by Sue McGuire at the Ohio County Board Office for our Extended School Year Program. These pedometers uplaod their data to a laptop which can be exported to Excel.
    As the semester continued the students and I became more familair with the data that can created with these pedometers.
    I created clubs or goals for the students to try to reach.

    On Friday, October 31st the BSMS students participated in our Halloween social. From 1:30 to 3:30 students participated in activities like exergames, dance, board games or outside activities.
  • WLU Dental Screening

    WLU Dental Screening
    On Friday, November 7th 34 dental students along with four instructors came to BSMS to perform a dental screening for all students. Mrs. Labrosse saiad they screened 298 BSMS students. Each student received a new tooth brush.
  • Get a Life Program

    Stephanie O'Donnel along with the 7th grade teachers helped our 7thgrade students understand what it is like to have an income and pay bills. Mercahnts and businessmen from the area worked tables helping students make economic decisions. Parents were encouraged to attend to assist their son's and daughter's make decisions.

    Students participated in our annual realy for life event to raise money for cancer by walking and participating in healthy activities.
  • Moundsville Middle School Jump Rope Team

    Moundsville Middle School Jump Rope Team
    On Friday, November 7th the Moundsville Middle School Jump Rope Team visited BSMS. The jump rope team performed for our 8th graders in the morning and our 6th graders in the afternoon. The jump rope team performed several routines combining lots of different ways to jump rope. At the end some of our students had the opportunity to jumpe with the team. Our assistant principal Mr. Kolb challenged one of their jumpers to a contest. Sorry to say Mr. Kolb did not win.
  • Cyber bullying Presentation

    On Thursday, December 4th our sixth graders participated in a Cyber Bullying Presentation with students from Wheeling Jesuit University.

    On Friday, December 19th the BSMS students participated in our Holiday social. From 1:30 to 3:30 students participated in activities like exergames, dance, board games or outside activities.
  • Fitstep Pro Pedometers

    My second semester were introduced to and began wearing our new pedometers.
  • BSMS Biggest Loser

    Once again the BSMS staff has begun a Biggest Loser Competition to improve personal health and wellness.

    Students who had Perfect Attendance for the second nine weeks participated in our Perfect Attendance Incentive Social. Students participated in various activities in the gym, cafeteria and outside.

    Students want to use the fitness afterschool so Mr. Thomas is opening the fitness center every Tuesday and Thursday until 4:30.

    After taking a break BSMS faculty returned to the T@% workout sessions after school.

    On February 26 Julie Schultz started BSMS first Crochet Club with about 36 students. A great way to socialize, learna new skill and just relax.

    The YMCA was the place to be on this beautiful sunny Friday afternoon. !63 BSMS earned the opportunity to walk to our local YMCA to participate in a variety of inside and outside activities as well as the chance to take swim in their pool.
  • RAZE Comotion

    During our Third Nine Weeks Awards Assembly each individual of our RAZE Crew gave an important health fact about the dangers of tobacco. The RAZE Crew also throw RAZE T-Shirts into the audience to have and show their support for RAZE and its anti-tobacco message.

    On Friday our students practiced our school evacuation plan by walking to the walking trail and back about a mile walk total.
