    The King João VI, the king of Portugal, started to live in Brazil with his whole family because Napoleon conquered Portugal and spent a couple of years living over there.

    João VI signs treaties with Britain, giving it trade preferences and privileges of extraterritoriality. This helped them get Brazil developed to a greater state.

    King João makes his son king of Brazil and gives him the authority of governing the colony because, if the he is gone or if the he dies, Pedro, can replace him.

    Portugal experiences a Constitutional Revolution, which was initiated by the liberal constitutionalists. This led to the Constituent Assembly’s meeting, where they decided to create the first constitution of the Kingdom. Also they demanded the return of King João to Portugal

    Because the townspeople demanded it, The King João VI returned to Portugal, leaving his son in power of Brazil.

    provincial governments of Brazil were put in political subordination to Portugal. This left Pedro with just rio de Janeiro which was just a providence. But the peoople of Brazil weren't happy because of this, so the Bonificants and Liberals were created and rose againts Portugal

    Declaring Brazil independent, Pedro creates a new government which was headed by José Bonifácio de Andrada e Silva. And of course, Pedro is the new governor.

    In this date Pedro proclaims, not declares, but PROCLAIMS the independence of Brazil. So finally the relation with Portugal were completely cut off. And ePedro was named as constitutional emperor
