Book Thief

    Liesel's Brother, Werner, died on the train. She met Rosa and Hans Hubermann, who she will soon call Mama and Papa. She became friends with Tommy Müller and Rudy Steiner. She made enamys with Frau Diller and a man named Pfiffikus.

    Papa began teaching her to read. World War II begins. She fought Ludwig Schmeikl for humiliating her during her reading test. She got books for Christmas which were paid for buy cigarettes.

  • Hans had met with a man who arranged his Jewish friend to stay with them in their safe basement.

    She didn't get any gifts for her birthday so she used some of the money she gets from the washing to mail a letter to her mom that she knows will never get replied to.

    Max had spent most of his days sleeping. Every night he came up by the fire to sit by the fire to keep warm. Eventually Liesel's birthday came along, in which she received another book called "The Mud Man".

  • Hitler's birthday arrived so there was a big celebration. They had a bonfire for trash and after it burned down she managed to grab a book that was still in one piece. It was the second book she stole.

    The mayors wife had seen her steal the book. Instead of reporting it, when Liesel stopped by to drop off her wash, she let her look at her library. Their Jew friend was starting to make his way to the Hubermann household.

    Max had made a book for her called, "The Standover Man". Max began to workout and became active. With the economy failing, the mayors wife had to cancel the washing leaving them with another less job.

    Rudy steals from the grocery store, fights and looses to a kid, and skips his Hitler Youth meetings. Max becomes very sick and is moved up stairs where it's warmer and he can get better rest. After 13 gifts and lots of patience, he wakes up.

    Hans would paint shudders with all the black paint he had or could mix. Sometimes he would paint for only a half a cigarette or a shared glass of champagne. There was a raid drill, one that everyone went into a basement together, huddle and hide.

  • There were Nazi Party officers that came to their house looking for basements suitable for bomb shelters. When the officers went down, they were not able to warn Max. Thankfully he was not found and the basement wouldn't be used as a bomb shelter.

  • The first real raid happened when it was dark out. Everyone was terrified, packed together, and scared. To quiet others, Liesel began to read out loud. People eventually stopped and just listened until the raid was over.

  • Another parade walked by through. This time, Liesel spotted Max through the crowd. She ran to him and ended up getting wiped for talking to him.

  • The Book Thief's street was bomb. Everyone she knew and loved in that town was gone with death. The mayor and her wife ended up taking her in.
