Big Events in Abby's Life

  • When I was born

I was born at 4:25 PM in Brookings South Dakota. It only took 1.75 hours for me to be born. I was 8 pounds and 11 ounces and 19.5 inches long. I am my parents 5th child and I was born 12 days before my due date.
  • diagnosed with diabetes

My older sister Hannah had already been diagnosed with it. Since I was only two, I had many of the same symptoms as her before she was diagnosed. I was sleeping a lot more than normal and my mom ended up checking my blood with my sister's blood checker. She took my to the doctor, they took some tests, and it was confirmed.
  • diagnosed with celiac

Basically since we had diabetes, my sister and I were both tested for other common diseases that people often get with diabetes. We both tested positive for celiac and have been gluten free ever since.
  • First day of school

    First day of school
My first teacher was Mrs. Kwilving. I remember being pretty excited to go to school and not just watch TV. I got there and was very happy to find Britta in my class. I had 18 kids in my class, but half of the kinds in that class no longer come to our school.
  • siesure

All I really remember about this experience is waking up in the hospital on a Sunday with a couple tubes hooked up to me. One night I went sleep with my younger sister Faith and she found me foaming at the mouth and making weird noises in the middle of the night. She got pretty scared and ran and got my parents. My mom checked my blood and they rushed me to the ER. The next thing I knew, I was awake with my parents next to me, and I thought it was really weird that we were skipping church.
  • Florida

    Florida
When I was in 4th grade, my brother Caleb was a senior. So we decided to go on a family trip. I hated the air plane ride there because my ears popped, but it was definitely worth it. We went to Disney World, Universal Studios, and the Beach. Even though the waiting lines for most of the rides were about an hour and a half long it never seemed like that long because I had my family with me.
  • Grandma Peterson

    Grandma Peterson
I remember my grandma's evil eye and kindness most about her. If she saw me doing something wrong, I knew it. I was pretty young when she was diagnosed with cancer, but it took a while for her death to seem real to me and it had a big affect on me. Also I look dumb in this picture because I hated taking pictures and smiling for a while when I was younger.
  • Caleb's graduation

This seems like so long ago, but once Caleb left, the house started to feel emptier. He was the oldest, and when he left we had 5 kids left.
  • Great Grandma Millie

    Great Grandma Millie
We wore purple because that was her favorite color. I mostly just remember seeing her every Christmas but it was hard for me when she died because my Grandma Peterson had died relatively recent. I mostly saw how it affected a lot of my family around my and made everyone sad, but it brought my family together.
  • Bekah's graduation

The house really seemed emptier without Bekah. She is the loudest and likes to talk the most. I mostly remember that when she moved out, I didn't have to share a room with Faith anymore. So she couldn't get mad at me for having a messy room.
