  • Mercury Thermometer

    Mercury Thermometer
    In 1714 Gabriel Fahrenheit created the first thermometer using mercury usually the thermometer had nitrogen gas to fill the space that did not contain mercury . The thermometer was a glass tube containing mercury inside with a scale on the left and right telling the user what the temperature was. When the area would get cold the amount of mercury in the thermometer would decrease and when the area became warm the mercury would increase.
  • Stethoscope

    Stethoscope
    The stethoscope was invented in France in 1816 by Rene Laennec. When it was first invented it was a wooden tube with a single ear piece but now it is made of a Rubber tube and a metal listening piece. Before stethoscope was invented, doctors would listen to their patient’s heartbeats by putting their ear on to their chests. One day Rene Laennec could not hear his patient's heartbeat so he created a tool to hear this patents heartbeat.
  • Hypodermic Needle

    The Hypodermic needle was invented in 1853 by Doctor Alexander Wood along with Charles Gabriel Pravaz. A hypodermic needle is a hollow steel needle, it was used to perform subcutaneous(Under the skin) injections and was later used to perform intravenous(into the veins) injections.

    Before X-Ray machines were invented broken bones were all diagnosed by physical examination and a doctor guessing the location. The X-Ray was accidently discovered by Wilhelm Conrad Röntgen in 1895 he was studying cathode rays during 1895, before he discovered X-rays.
  • Insulin

    Insulin
    January 11 1921, insulin was first used in to treat diabetes. Insulin was discovered by Sir Frederick G Banting, Charles H Best and JJR Macleod at the University of Toronto in 1921. Insulin is an important hormone that allows your body to use sugar, it also helps keeps your blood sugar level from getting too high or too low.
  • Antibiotics

    In 1928 Alexander Fleming Created the first antibiotic penicillin, penillicn is used to treat or prevent bacterial infections. Although it was made in 1928 wasn’t until 1940 that they began being prescribed to the public.
