    Pre-historic

    Thw earliest drawings dates back to 30,000-10,000 BCE, and were found on caves of Altamira, Spain and Lascaux, France, located in northern Spain and southern France. Drawings were scratched, carved or painted onto primitve tools.

    Ancient Greence

    Ancient Greeks have several lasting artifacts of drawings. Their vases and pottery were drawn or painted on to exhibit their graceful, decorative use of drawing. their drawings were used to depict scenes of battles and myths.
  • Period: 300 to 400

    Ancient Egypt

    Early Egyptians had decorated the walls on their temples and tombs by carving scenes of life, hieroglyphics and religious deities, or gods, in 3,000 BC. Egyptian drawings use a flat, linear style.

    Middle Ages

    Drawings were produced primarily to express religious messages and stories of the Bible. MOnks used drawings and paintings to illustrate Bibles and prayer books for royal and wealthy families. People had used wood, slates or wax which were often thrown away. Artists had also kept model books, it stored images of human figures or subjects from nature to copy their own work instead of live models.

    Renaissance

    Drawing started to bacame recognized in art form because the use of paper. Art students were trained in drawing before their training in other forms of art- painting, sculpture, or architecture. Artists and scientists became increasingly concerned with creating realistic depictions of the natural world.

    Introduced a new style of drawing that included realistic forms with flowing lines. Artists began to use water colors and ink washes.
