Atomic Theory Timeline

  • 400 BCE

    Democritus

    Democritus
His model shows a single round atom which lacks protons neutrons and electrons, he contributed that atoms were indivisible and indestructable
  • John Dalton

    John Dalton
Proposed that all matter is composed of atoms and that each atom of different elements have different properties. The model shows the different parts of an atom
  • Eugene Goldstein

    Eugene Goldstein
The model shows the travel of cathode rays versus normal rays he did not only discover these cathode rays he worked with canal rays
  • JJ Thomson

    JJ Thomson
He developed the first theoretical description of the inner structure of atoms and discovered the electron. Model shows that atoms are uniform spheres of positively charged matter
  • Ernest Rutherford

    Ernest Rutherford
model describes atoms as tiny with a dense and positively charged core known as a nucleus. Not only did he dicover this he was the first to split the atom.
  • Niels Bohr

    Niels Bohr
proposed theory for hydrogen atom that energy is transferred only in certain defined quantities. First to discover electrons travel in seperate orbits. Also contributed to quantum theory.
  • Erwin Schrodinger

    Erwin Schrodinger
His model shows specific ideals about the orbits of electrons, he expanded on bohrs ideas but used mathmatical equations to further his studies
  • Louis De Broglie

    Louis De Broglie
His model shows the wave nature of electrons, he also did research on the quantum theory.
  • James Chadwick

    James Chadwick
Discovered the neutron and proved rutherfords theory he revolutionized the understanding of the atomic theory. His model shows the atom with the addition of the nuetron.
