    Democritus' Theory

    Democritus' Theory
    In 400 BCE, Democritus started to develop a theory about what everything is made up of. Without any evidence from expirements, he suggested that all matter is made up of atoms. Atoms in Greek means, "cannot be cut". He claimed that these atoms were the smallest particles, and that they constantly moved around, that they all were seperated, and that some were larger while others were smaller. He thought that atoms were the smallest part of any element.

    John Dalton was born in Cumberland, England. In his earlier years, he wanted to study law and medicine. When he moved to manchester, he started to teach and become interested in math and natural philosophy. He also started a diary in which over the span of 57 years he made more than 200,000 observations. Other than researching colour blindness (which he was also well known for), he started to write about scientific expirements in 1801. He started to revise Dalton's theory, and agreed that all ma
