460 BCE
Democritus
Democritus was born 460 BC Abdera, Thrace and lived to 370 BC. He had a theory that the universe was made up of atoms and that they were the smallest thing on earth. Democritus was philosopher so he didn't research he was a theorist. -
384 BCE
Aristotle
Aristotle was born 384 - 322 BC, he believed in four elements Air, Fire, Water, and Earth, he also said no matter how much you split matter in half it will be smaller. Aristotle was a theorist. Aristotle tutored Alexander The Great. -
Antoine Lavoisier
Antoine Lavoisier was born in Paris, France August 26, 1743 - May 8, 1794 he was the first person to use balance, and figured out that oxygen and combustion were tied together and figured out the law of conservation of mass. He experimented with the burning process. HE was involved with psychology. -
John Dalton
John Dalton was born (1776 - 1844) and and made the concept of the mole, and symbols to represent elements and contributed models to the atom. John Dalton tested gases and figured out atoms are indestructible. He also figured out colorblindness which he suffered from. -
Billiard Ball Model
This was proposed by John Dalton, this proved the atom was the smallest thing on the planet, and compounds are multiple elements. He researched compounds and there substances. Since Dalton says the atom is the smallest thing he thought of it as a hard ball like a billiard ball. -
Lucas Model
The model was proposed in the early 1800's by Joseph Lucas. Lucas said protons and electrons and neutrons are based on Bergman's Spinning Charged Ring Model. The model he made predicts the amount of electrons in an atom, and predicts them precisely and correctly. His research came from a model from school, and that produced ideas of this model. -
Elemental Model
Proposed by John Dalton, John made a table that showed atoms, and the differences of the atom with words and symbols, and described the atom itself, and how it is indestructible and cannot be made. He researched based off of conservation of mass and law of constant composition. -
JJ Thomson
JJ Thomson was born 1856 - 1940, he discovered negatively charged electrons from the cathode tube ray, he said the electron was a component of all of matter, he also proposed the Plum Pudding Model. he studied rays, and experimented with gas in tubes. In 1918 he became Master of Trinity College and held the post until his death. -
Max Planck
Max Planck was born 1858 - 1947, he created the Quantum Theory, and understood atomic and subatomic , he experimented with light and energy. He also won the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1918. -
Marie Curie
Marie Curie was born 1867 - 1934, she developed the theory of radioactivity, and invented the x-ray. She experimented with neoplasms that help with the medical industry. She died from radiation -
Ernest Rutherford
Ernst Rutherford was born 1871-1937, he proposed the nuclear atom, and that the atom most of its empty volume was electrons in the atom and energy. Ernest experimented on nuclear activity and radiation. Rutherford was the first person from Oceania to win a Nobel Prize. -
Niels Bohr
Neils Bohr was born 1885 - 1962, he proposed a theory for the hydrogen atom, based off the quantum theory. He contributed a lot of his info based off the quantum model and theory. He helped refugees from Nazism. -
Louis de Broglie
Louis was born 1892 - 1987, he said there was wave like movements in particles. He experimented on wave mechanics . He won the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1929. -
Plum Pudding Model
Model proposed by JJ Thomson the model shows negative electrons inside of positive pudding, electrons were discovered just before this he researched into that and that supported his information for this model. -
Nuclear Model
This model was proposed by Ernest Rutherford in 1911, his model shows a prediction of properties of nuclei of an atom, and each neutron and proton moves in its own orbit. He used a lot of research from the Plum Pudding Model. -
Toroidal Ring Model
Niels Bohr proposed the Toroidal Ring Model, the idea of the model was to show the circulation with a vortex of atoms. The Research was found in liquid jets that have a toroidal vortex. -
Bohr Model
Neils Bohr proposed this in 1915, this shows how electrons circle the neutron and the energy of the orbit shows how much energy the electron has. He researched all about the orbit of electrons, and also discovered it. -
Wave Model
In 1926 Erwin Schrödinger, he proposed the Wave Model. The research from Bohr and Rutherford with neutrons and electrons and orbit helped him with his model. His model is like Bohr's Model but it uses probability in stead of math to describe electrons and the orbit. -
Quantum Model
In 1926 Erwin Schrödinger this was proposed. This model is based off of math, and the theory that matter has properties associated with waves, they used symbols and numbers to prove what was a neutron or an electron. This was researched and found out from other scientists, but this model was using quantum numbers, math, and probability.
